Inventory Of The Soul

Scripture: Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) – “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Message: Those of us from the manufacturing sector go through what is often called Physical Inventory Count at the beginning of each year.  Depending on the size of the company, it requires pausing production for up to five days or more.  The annual inventory ensures a manufacturing company knows exactly what it owns, where it is, what it’s worth, and whether its systems are working properly in order to protect profitability and operational efficiency.

Lent is like a company’s annual physical inventory for one’s own spiritual inventory.  Lent invites us to pause and take honest stock of our hearts.  We examine our habits, attitudes and priorities, letting go of what no longer serves God’s purpose.

Inventory prepares a company for the new year ahead.  Lent prepares us for resurrection – restoring what was lost and realigning our lives with Christ.

Prayer: Holy God, create in me a pure heart.  Renew a righteous spirit within me.  Remove what distracts me from Your presence and draw me closer to the cross.  Amen.
