Monday, June 29, 2020 - "The Connection" Series

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on you own understanding; in all you ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Message: On what was to be the last visit to my husband Richard with my son Craig, who was visiting from out of state, I decided to time our visit to coincide with Richard’s physical therapy session. He was in rehab for the second time after two hospital stays and seemed to be getting his physical strength back. We had a most amazing two hour visit that was surprising because his dementia seemed to be lessened and, recognizing Craig, he even made a joke or two and was in a happy mood. We went with him for the start of his PT and he even attempted to hook up his own apparatus. We left him in the care of his therapist with a final “Love you and see you later.” He smiled and went to his task.

That day started out as most did for the previous five months since he went to live in a memory care home. In my morning prayer, I thanked God for a new day and thanked him for the blessings I had received and then asked for the wisdom to make good decisions and to give peace and joy to Richard. I prayed for his healing and for my courage to accept God’s will.

As it turned out, Richard did have joy and gave hope to us in that last visit. I know now that his healing was to shed his tired and worn out body for a new body in heaven. Often, the outcome we hope for is transformed by God’s plan.

Prayer: Dear God, You are the author of everything and I am overwhelmed at the beauty of your creation. Please help me to accept Your transformative will as the ultimate plan and help me be an accepting and joyful servant. This I ask in Jesus name. Amen.
