Scripture: Mark 6:34a (KJV) - "And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd." Message: Recently I attended a funeral for the wife of a friend. I knew the wife of my friend, but we were not close. During the service I found myself shedding tears at various times. I wondered to myself as to why I should be crying when I had not seen the deceased in over a decade, and even then, was not close to her. Then I remembered a word I had recently looked up in my Bible dictionary compassion. The definition was: "suffering with another". I was weeping because I was suffering with my friend, the husband of the woman that had died. Jesus did this very same thing at the death of Lazarus when He saw the two sisters suffering. He was moved with compassion when He saw the blind, the lame, the lepers, and the unbelieving. He let compassion move Him to action. We should do likewise. He was moved with compassion when He went to the cross to suffer in my place. What a Savior! Prayer: Father, never let us fail to have compassion for the spiritually lost, the dying, and the hurting of this world. Help us to remember the compassion You had for us when we see others in need, and help us to act on Your behalf for them. Amen. Paul Schumacher |
