My husband, Dick, passed away June 24, 2009 quite suddenly.

June 2005:  We are doing great here in Florida.  Dick had both hips replaced last year and tho' he is still using a cane outside the home, we are once again doing more socializing again after a three year hiatus.  We are back to our twice monthly bridge game with friends we made in Virginia some 40 years ago.  They live about 12 miles South of us.

I am still a volunteer at Oak Hill Hospital and love it.  Keeps my mind active and have made many fine friends there.  As a matter of fact, we are leaving on a cruise through the Panama Canal on October 25th with a bunch that I work with.  This will be our 15th cruise since I retired and hope there will be more in the future.   Jini

December 2004:  It has been a long year.   Dick had the left hip replaced in June and the right one in October.   He is doing quite well but needs a bit more practice on the cane after two years on a walker.   This too shall pass (I hope).   Other than that we are fine.   I am still a volunteer at Oak Hill Hospital and also an officer.   Keeps me busy and mind active.

Best to you and your family for the holiday and the coming year ahead.  Jini

March 2004:  Do you remember the "WALK AWAYS"?  The paper cup with the wooden spoon, ice cream and whatever toppings you wanted?  For five cents!  Jini

Yes, we have been married 52 1/2 years. - In response to Igor Alexeff's 50th wedding celebration notice - March 2004

November 2003:  I was very sorry to hear about Bala.   Do remember him from several classes.

Husband, Dick, is now on a walker or electric wheelchair permanently so we take each day as it comes.   Jini

Here is the latest, as of today (August, 2003) that is, information on the Sommerfelds.

Dick and I have been in Hernando County since I retired in 1988.  I took "early out" because of my Mother who lived in Winter Haven at the time.  We have two sons.  The youngest, Jeff, passed away in 1994.  Our oldest son, Rick, is divorced and back living in Virginia after spending most of his career in Bahrain and England.  He has two sons, both living in Virginia.  The oldest is Evan and he is married.  Carl lives in Richmond and is a part-time student at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dick is on a walker because he refuses to have surgery on his hips.  We did a lot of traveling until this year.  Jini

July 2003:  Sorry to miss the reunion but my husband Dick is not in good health.  Needs hip replacement but too stubborn to do it.  Oh well, that is life after 52 years of marriage.

Kidding aside, we enjoy our life in Florida.  After retiring in 1988 we moved to the Nature Coast (West Coast) and renewed friendships from Virginia and Pittsburgh.  Our oldest son, Rick lives in Leesburg, VA, and has two sons.  One is a graduate of VPI and works at the school and the younger one goes to VCU.

I volunteer at our hospital and really enjoy that.   Keeps my mind active.  We went to Alaska to celebrate our 50th in 2001 and would go back in a heart beat.  What a beautiful state.  Enjoy the reunion and keep in touch.  Jini (Carrell) Sommerfeld

August 2008 Bill Erdman called Joan while he and Kay were passing through Wenham to see if we could take her to lunch or dinner but she was on her way to visit relatives in several different cities and didn't know when she would be back.  She asked for a rain check.

Joan Coleman MongerJune 2008:  Hi Bill,  I'm happy to send along some news and greetings to my fellow classmates.  I attended Elmira College for a couple years and was working in Pittsburgh when I met and married Joseph Monger, a Tennessee native whose Air Force fighter group was stationed at Greater Pitt.  We were married for 52 years and during that time resided mostly in Massachusetts, but did a fair bit of traveling around the country and more recently to Europe.  By the time of his death in 2004, we had moved to Wenham, north of Boston, to be near our daughter and her husband.  My son and his family live in Maryland and I try to visit often.  I have 3 grandchildren who range in age from 15 to 22, the oldest of whom graduated from Harvard this year.  I've had a few minor health issues over the years, but am feeling pretty good these days.  Best wishes to all!  Joan Coleman Monger

January 2009: I am sorry to have missed the Reunion but visited Mary Hardy in October, caught up on the Reunion activities and people, and was reminded of how beautiful the PA countryside is in the Fall.  Although I only attended the 10th, I am impressed with the dedication of those who plan and conduct these Reunions.  I keep up with some of you and enjoy reading about everyone.  In response to Bill’s plea for information, here is a revised version of the holiday letter to our far-flung family.

Our Maine family of five planned to join us over the holidays, but the winter storms cancelled their flights twice, so no one made it.  That was a big disappointment, but we held the party for all their friends anyway.  After shooting his age at 81, Bob won low net in the Seniors’ Golf Tournament at his club this year.  He plays golf EVERY day – some days good, some just great exercise and companionship.  I retired in 2000, traveled, consulted and remodeled our retirement house, then unretired in 2005 to return to lead the Urban Education Partnership, an organization supporting reforms in L.A.’s urban schools.  We have raised over $80 million and designed and invested in many effective and proven strategies and initiatives over 25 years, with more promising innovations planned.  However, as local and state financing gets worse, it threatens some disastrous years ahead for educators and students and makes our work more difficult.

Daughter Lise Paul lives in Santa Monica and is job-hunting after taking a year off work for health reasons – bad timing.  Son Rob, also in L.A., has a production team and investors assembled to produce a five-segment film for television.  Daughter Kristen Pierce is getting a Masters’ degree in Arts Therapy, and her husband Kent is a writer and a member of the Yarmouth, ME Board of Education.

Grandchildren Niko and Greta Funkhouser live in Austria and are attending the University of Innsbruck – one studying economics and one architecture.  Nell Pierce is working in Guatemala for a year then will attend Dartmouth in the Fall, and Luke and Erica Pierce are in high school in Maine.  All five were born in Santa Monica but no one stayed in California.  All are wonderful … of course.

That was our life in 2008.  Like everyone, we hope for resolution of some of the challenging issues we face in the country and abroad in 2009.  Peggy

June, 2003:  I was filling out the form to say “Sorry,” about the 55th reunion, when I noticed the note about visiting the website.  I have been reviewing the lives of classmates for the last three hours.  I have no information on any of the missing folks but am delighted to catch up with so many.

After 55 years, I will try to keep the life story as brief as possible:  See Peggy's Biography.

October 2005:  The first week of September the annual "DBC" reunion was held at my home in Lake Barrington, IL, a suburb of Chicago.  It was five days of talking and eating.  We spent two days in Chicago seeing the sights including the new Millennium Park (which is great fun and like no other park), the Architectural Boat Tour on the Chicago River (a must do) and a night on the town.  We told everyone that would listen who we were and that we had graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1948.  We hope "they" were impressed!

Peggy's Biography

Barbara Adams Norris and I graduated from Wellesley College in 1952 after four years as roommates.  She with a degree in History and I in International Relations.  I went to work immediately for the Gallup Poll in Princeton and stayed through the Eisenhower / Stevenson presidential race, then left in mid-1953 to marry Bob Funkhouser whom I met in New York.  Bob graduated from Dartmouth in 1950, worked in advertising, and had just taken a job in Pittsburgh, so I returned to be married and live in Fox Chapel until 1970.

We had a great life and both of us have wonderful memories of Pittsburgh.  He was part of the advertising community all those years, first with Ketchum, McLeod and Grove, then with BBDO.  Bob got to know some of my MtL classmates in the advertising world during those years, and I kept in touch with many others.  My parents lived on Gypsy Lane all those years, so we frequently traversed the city for babysitting and home cooking.  I was active in the Junior League of Pittsburgh and various forms of downtown life - in the schools, social service agencies and some of the early planning for revitalizing Market Square.

Bob was transferred to Los Angeles to head the West Coast office of BBDO in 1970, and three unhappy teenagers and I followed along.  We were wrong to dread it, because it has been a wonderful life.  The children finished school in Los Angeles, couldn’t wait to head East for their college years, then all ended up back in L.A. for graduate study and jobs which meant that we had the good luck to watch them start their married and parental lives nearby.  Some years after my father died, my mother joined us for the last ten years of her life.

I have been very active in the civic life of Los Angeles.  I have served, and still serve, on the Boards of Directors of many organizations, then started Sector III to offer counsel to local foundations on more effective philanthropy.  In 1983, I consulted my way into an 18 year job as founder and head of the Los Angeles Educational Partnership, one of the first and largest education reform organizations in the country to focus on improving urban public schools for the thousands of disadvantaged children who attend this huge school district.

Along the way, Bob left BBDO to join Carnation Company as head of advertising and public relations.  He retired in 1989 to a life as a fulltime golfer and has worked hard to play most of the famous golf courses around the country.  While he played, I continued working until 2000.  If the assignment is intriguing, I still do some educational consulting with school districts or funders.  In 2000, we remodeled a smaller home which overlooks a working vineyard in a canyon in Bel Air and is directly across the 405 freeway from the new Getty Center.  We welcome all visitors.

Our daughter Lise Paul (b.1955) is a financial analyst with Morgan Stanley in Santa Monica.  Our son Rob (b.1957), after a brief stint with USS, turned to remodeling condominiums and screen writing and has a son and daughter who now live in Innsbruck, Austria and visit often.  Our younger daughter Kristen (b.1958) is an illustrator and portrait painter and is married to Kent Pierce, also a writer.  Three years ago, they and their three children moved to Maine to join Kent’s brothers and their families in the Portland area.  We now have Maine on our frequent travel schedule.

We have traveled to Europe often, the Caribbean and Asia several times, the Amazon and Peru, and still have many far places on the wish list.  We will be in Maine for several weeks in August joining with all our children and grandchildren in Rockport Maine for a celebration of our 50th anniversary.   We made the 10th reunion and are sorry that we cannot join you once again.

Mary Murrie just called Bob.   She had a long conversation with Edith.   Edith was excited and is going to try to come to the reunion.

Bob - I went back to my source of information about Edie Cross, and my friend (also an old friend of Edie's from Sewickley) looked their name up in a very old Sewickley directory that she had.   They (the directory) spelled it as you had it originally - MULLER so that's probably right.   My friend told me that a few years ago they moved away to Indiana.  Several of the Sewickley people who knew her have sent Christmas cards etc. and have not received a reply.   That's all the scoop that I know.  Mary, July 2008

I have been able to trace 1 from the Lost list, however, the address is 8 years old, and the people who have sent letters and cards there, have not received replies, so it's probably worthless, but here it is:  Edith Cross - husband Joe Muller - 22 Chrismar Rd., Ogden Dunes, Indiana 46368 – Mary, July 2008

Carol DavisBest I could do with the snapshot

Great news!! We heard from Carol on July 22nd, 2008.  She wants to come to the reunion!

June 2008:  Guys,  I just talked with Carol's step son Thomas Owens in Clinton, NY.   He said Carol is alive and well, but his wife maintains all the contact info with her and she was not home.   I sent him the email below and he will get back to me with info about

her.   Tom thought she was still in the Wappingers Falls area to be near her daughter . I'll let you know when I hear back from him.  Tom

People Search has her with addresses in Clinton, Inlet, Utica, New Hartford, and Wappingers Falls, NY plus Alexandria and Woodbridge, VA but no phone book listing.  Anyone know her whereabouts? - May 2008

Nancy Rankin Linn writes: Carol Davis Owens and I had a lovely lunch/  get-together in Syracuse in October, and had fun sharing old photos and memories.  We both live in central New York, but this is the first time to visit. - December 2006

October 2005, Hi Bill,  I have moved from my townhouse to an apartment in the next town -- no more yard work, house maintenance, etc.  So far I'm enjoying the change.  My new phone for my new address below is (315) 738-8968 (NG 2008).

Nancy Rankin Linn and I have been trying to get together for about a year now, and I hope we will make it sometime soon.  I still have my "camp" in the Adirondacks, and the weather this summer was great!  All of my children (3) spent some time there.  We are on a cove, and it's my favorite place to swim.  (I swim at the YWCA in the winter -- not as scenic, but still good exercise).

In July Debbie Huber Monroe (class of '49) visited me.  We have been friends since I was five years old and went to the same college (Wheaton in Mass.).  She has a grandson at Hamilton College and came to visit him (and me) with another college friend of mine.  We had a super time here and at camp.  Not many people get up to the boonies, so I did appreciate her visit.

I recently got a new "mini"car, a Scion, and I love it.  Toyota built it for the 20's crowd, but it's sold like hot cakes to all kinds of people (including Grammys like me).  It's a hatchback, very roomy inside, and a real gas saver (and we sure do need to save on gas these days.)  Got to the US Open tennis matches for 4 days in Sept. (thanks to my sister-in-law) and it was very exciting to see most of the top players.  I'm a real Roger Federer fan!  I still play in a doubles group during the winter..

That's about it for now, Carol

June 2005:  Just a note to tell you that I'm moving into an apartment on July 8 in a nearby town.  No more yard work and house maintenance (still have a summer cottage to keep up, though).

My new address is:
10 Blackburn Ct.
New Hartford, NY 13413

I don't have my new phone # yet.  More later.  Thanks for keeping us up-to-date on our classmates  Carol

March 2004:  Hi Bill,  This is the first time I've been able to get on our website and have enjoyed catching up with some of my classmates!  Do you have any info about Sylvia Lopez or Art Mensing

I visited with Anne Philhower Fair last month in Bonita Springs, FL, where she lives.  We had a great time together and have been friends since second grade.

I live in a small college town in upstate NY (really upstate!), home of Hamilton College.  I have three children and one grandson (16).  He and my daughter Lynn went together to Prague and Budapest a year ago.  It was strenuous and fun!  I've also been to Kenya, Russia, Turkey, Switzerland, Austria, London and the West Coast (one of the most spectacular trips of all).  As you may have guessed neither of my late husbands liked to travel, so when I had the opportunity....

My children and I also have a small cabin (camp) in the Adirondacks, which we love.  I am an avid environmentalist, enjoy gardening, tennis, swimming and hiking (not up mountains).

I hope this will make up for lost time.  Carol

December 2006:  Bob Woeber wrote:  I had occasion to fly to L.A. a couple weeks ago on business, and spent an overnight with Dick Davis.

He is retired now from his medical practice and lives in a beautiful home with his daughter Beverly in Claremont.   Dick and I sort of grew up together and were fraternity brothers at Pitt.   We had a great visit.

Bob Woeber writes in June, 2005Dick was in Pittsburgh last week for his 50th Medical School reunion.   I picked him up and we had a nice visit  before he went back.   He seems to be in good health.

November 2003 Bill, Your latest update finally motivated me to respond.  I am one of those non-responders.  It is not yet time to report by demise.

I have not been a participant in any of the class activities.  I have seen Bob Woeber a few times.

My history is one of Med School at Pitt, Internship in Cleveland, 2 years in the US Navy (CA), FP Residency at U. of Colorado, and return to practice in CA for the past 43 years.

Mostly retired now and a widower (married a RN who graduated in '55 from Ohio Valley Hospital in McKees Rocks).  I have three children and nine grandchildren all living in California.  My only Pittsburgh vicinity connection is my 92 year old step-mother who lives in Mt. Washington.

I hope this helps in your tracking.  Dick Davis

Suzanne D. Williams

February 2005:  Hi!   I am well and still working!   I retired from my full, full time job as a Paralegal for Brown & Connery on January 20th, 2006 after 31 years there, but they wanted to know if I could still work some so I go in 2 days per week--been doing that for a year on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and some extra hours at home when the caseload warrants.  It keeps the old brain working and gets me out and about back with my great office crew for a little while every week.

I hosted our DBC Reunion this year in New Jersey at my home and my daughter's ( she had to move out for 5 days!)  There were 8 of us--Ann Pritchard, Ann Bowman, Nancy Godden, Jeanne Vayda, Ann Mosites, Mary Murrie, Mitzie Fantl, and me.   Barbara Adams got sick at the last minute and couldn't make it.   We had a great time--did some sightseeing to Winterthur and the Brandwine Museum in Delaware and a day in Philadelphia to see the Liberty Bell. the Constitution Center, Christ Church, Lemon Hill Mansion, and lunch at the Waterworks overlooking the river and Boathouse Row.   It was a fun time and so great to see everyone.   We do this every year.

Stay well.   It is great hearing about members in our class even though it is sometimes so sad, but I guess we are at that age when sad news will increase.  Take care  Suzanne

From Mary Murrie, January 2007 - Hi Bill,  thought you might like to see this picture that was taken in October at Suzanne Divine Williams' place.  The lake in the background is right behind her daughter's house, and the good looking group are from left: Jeanne Vayda McCallum, Ann Bowman McClymonds, Mitzi Fantl Murphy, Nancy Godden, Anne Mosites Miller, Suzanne Divine Williams, and Ann Pritchard Evanson.  I took the picture.  We had a wonderful 4 days together in the New Jersey, Philadelphia area.  (Click on image to enlarge)

June 2006 - Hi!  I retired from my fulltime job as a paralegal for Brown & Connery Law Firm on January 20th, 2006 after 30 years with the firm.  I continue to work for them part-time on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so that gives me 4 days off every week which is really nice.  The 2 days per week in the office keeps the old brain working.  I will be at the 60th--hopefully!  My e-mail at home is available from Bill Erdman as I don't want mine on a web site - so keep me in the loop. Thanks, Suzanne

February 2003:  Still working full, full time.  I really don't have any exciting activities to report.  Most of my fun comes from doing things with my family, two out of three live close by and that includes my only grandchild Brittany, age 13.

I was very involved with baby sitting until this past year when all of a sudden she was all grown up and babysitting other little ones.

I look forward to the reunion every fall with the group of DBC's.  We have had 2 years at Ann Mosites's home in West Palm Beach, and last year at Mary Murrie's home in Savannah.

This fall it will be almost in my back at the Jersey Shore at Jeanne Vaydas home.  That should be home.

Unfortunately my job takes up the majority of my time.  I have been a Paralegal at this law firm for 28 years.  I do love the work because they let me do everything but appear in court,  but it is a lot of hours.  One of these days I will retire as long as I have some part-time job to go to.  Hope you are well and I will look forward to the "55th"!  Suzanne

 Bill's Biography

June 2003:  Graduated from the University of Miami and went to work with Delta Airlines.  Married Eleanor (Susie) in 1957

I am sorry but I will not be able to attend.  I am still recovering from hip replacement surgery.  Bill Dixon - August 2008

Bill's Biography - July 2003:

From Hapeville,  Georgia

I graduated from the University of Miami (FL) in 1955 with a BBA in Aviation Management.

I was employed by Delta Air Lines in their Miami Reservations Center until 1961 when I moved to the company headquarters to assist in the establishment of their Computer Technology department.

The first project of the department was the initial Computer Reservations System.  After that, I was involved in various other projects for the Finance Division, the Flight Operations Division the Marketing Division and was working with Technical Operations Division when I retired in 1992.

After a sabbatical, I joined H&R Block as a Tax Professional.  After two years, my computer background moved me into my present position as a District Technical Support Specialist where I am responsible for maintaining the office computer networks.

I married my wife, Eleanor (Susie) Ostergaard Dixon, whom I met at the University of Miami, in Coral Gables FL in 1957.  She retired after 25 years at the Georgia Institute of Technology.  We live in Hapeville, GA, a suburb of Atlanta..

I have been active in Lions International in the Hapeville Lions Club for 34 years (serving as president twice) and in Georgia District 18-A where I just retired as Cabinet Secretary.
