2008 |
June 2008: Talked with Pattie
on the phone this evening. We went over our walks to
Markham Elementary School - long before Senior High.
She is still enthusiastic and is going to send information
and pictures of her exciting life.

My husband, Dick,
passed away June 24, 2009 quite suddenly.
June 2005: We are doing great here in
Florida. Dick had both hips replaced last year and tho' he is still
using a cane outside the home, we are once again doing more socializing
again after a three year hiatus. We are back to our twice monthly bridge
game with friends we made in Virginia some 40 years ago. They live about 12
miles South of us.
I am still a volunteer at Oak Hill Hospital and love it.
Keeps my mind active and have made many fine friends there. As a matter of
fact, we are leaving on a cruise through the Panama Canal on October 25th
with a bunch that I work with. This will be our 15th cruise since I retired
and hope there will be more in the future.
Jini
December 2004: It has
been a long year. Dick had the left hip replaced in June and
the right one in October. He is doing quite well but needs a bit more
practice on the cane after two years on a walker. This too shall pass
(I hope). Other than that we are fine. I am still a volunteer
at Oak Hill Hospital and also an officer. Keeps me busy and mind
active. Best to you and your family for the holiday
and the coming year ahead. Jini

I
was

to
hear
about

Do
remember
him
from

Husband,
Dick,
is
now
on
a
walker

permanently
so
we

comes.
Jini
Here
is
the
latest,
as
of
today
(August,

that
is,
information
on
the
Sommerfelds.
Dick
and
I
have
been
in
Hernando
County
since
I
retired
in
1988.
I
took
"early
out"
because
of
my
Mother
who
lived
in
Winter
Haven
at
the
time.
We
have
two
sons.
The
youngest,
Jeff,
passed
away
in
1994.
Our
oldest
son,
Rick,
is
divorced
and
back
living
in
Virginia
after
spending
most
of
his
career
in
Bahrain
and
England.
He
has
two
sons,
both
living
in
Virginia.
The
oldest
is
Evan
and
he
is
married.
Carl
lives
in
Richmond
and
is
a

University.
Dick
is
on
a
walker
because
he
refuses
to
have
surgery
on
his
hips.
We
did
a
lot
of
traveling
until
this
year.
Jini
July
2003:
Sorry
to
miss
the
reunion
but
my
husband
Dick
is
not
in
good
health.
Needs
hip
replacement
but
too
stubborn
to
do
it.
Oh
well,
that
is
life
after
52
years
of
marriage.
Kidding
aside,
we
enjoy
our
life
in
Florida.
After
retiring
in
1988
we
moved
to
the
Nature
Coast
(West
Coast)
and
renewed
friendships
from
Virginia
and
Pittsburgh.
Our
oldest
son,
Rick
lives
in
Leesburg,
VA,
and
has
two
sons.
One
is
a
graduate
of
VPI
and
works
at
the
school
and
the
younger
one
goes
to
VCU.
I
volunteer
at
our
hospital
and
really
enjoy
that.
Keeps
my
mind
active.
We
went
to
Alaska
to
celebrate
our
50th
in
2001
and
would
go
back
in
a
heart
beat.
What
a
beautiful

Enjoy
the

and
keep
in
touch.

Bill
Erdman called Joan while he and Kay were
passing through Wenham to see if we could take her to lunch or
dinner but she was on her way to visit relatives in several
different cities and didn't know when she would be back. She
asked for a rain check.
June
2008: Hi
Bill, I'm happy to
send along some news and greetings to my fellow classmates. I
attended Elmira College for a couple years and was working in
Pittsburgh when I met and married Joseph Monger, a Tennessee
native whose Air Force fighter group was stationed at Greater Pitt.
We were married for 52 years and during that time resided mostly in
Massachusetts, but did a fair bit of traveling around the country
and more recently to Europe. By the time of his death in 2004, we
had moved to Wenham, north of Boston, to be near our daughter and
her husband. My son and his family live in Maryland and I try to
visit often. I have 3 grandchildren who range in age from 15 to 22,
the oldest of whom graduated from Harvard this year. I've had a few
minor health issues over the years, but am feeling pretty good these
days. Best wishes to all!

January 2009:
I am
sorry to have missed the Reunion but visited
Mary Hardy in October,
caught up on the Reunion activities and people, and was reminded of how
beautiful the PA countryside is in the Fall. Although I only attended the
10th, I am impressed with the dedication of those who plan and
conduct these Reunions. I keep up with some of you and enjoy reading about
everyone. In response to
Bill’s
plea for information, here is a revised version of the holiday letter to our
far-flung family.
Our Maine family of five
planned to join us over the holidays, but the winter storms cancelled their
flights twice, so no one made it. That was a big disappointment, but we
held the party for all their friends anyway. After shooting his age at 81,
Bob won low net in the Seniors’ Golf Tournament at his club this
year. He plays golf EVERY day – some days good, some just great exercise
and companionship. I retired in 2000, traveled, consulted and remodeled our
retirement house, then unretired in 2005 to return to lead the Urban
Education Partnership, an organization supporting reforms in L.A.’s urban
schools. We have raised over $80 million and designed and invested in many
effective and proven strategies and initiatives over 25 years, with more
promising innovations planned. However, as local and state financing gets
worse, it threatens some disastrous years ahead for educators and students
and makes our work more difficult.
Daughter Lise Paul
lives in Santa Monica and is job-hunting after taking a year off work for
health reasons – bad timing. Son Rob, also in L.A., has a production
team and investors assembled to produce a five-segment film for television.
Daughter Kristen Pierce is getting a Masters’ degree in Arts
Therapy, and her husband Kent is a writer and a member of the
Yarmouth, ME Board of Education.
Grandchildren Niko
and Greta Funkhouser live in Austria and are attending the University
of Innsbruck – one studying economics and one architecture. Nell
Pierce is working in Guatemala for a year then will attend Dartmouth in
the Fall, and Luke and Erica Pierce are in high school in
Maine. All five were born in Santa Monica but no one stayed in California.
All are wonderful … of course.
That was our life in 2008.
Like everyone, we hope for resolution of some of the challenging issues we
face in the country and abroad in 2009. Peggy

Peggy's Biography.
October 2005:
The first week of September the annual "DBC"
reunion was held at my home in Lake Barrington, IL, a suburb of Chicago. It
was five days of talking and eating. We spent two days in Chicago seeing
the sights including the new Millennium Park (which is great fun and like no
other park), the Architectural Boat Tour on the Chicago River (a must do)
and a night on the town. We told everyone that would listen who we were and
that we had graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1948. We hope "they"
were impressed!

The
above picture was taken after a long day of touring and shopping so we're
a little worse for the wear. Not bad, considering! Seated: (L to R)

was excited and is going to try to come to the reunion.
Bob
- I went back to my source of information about Edie
Cross, and my friend (also an old friend of Edie's
from Sewickley) looked their name up in a very old Sewickley
directory that she had. They (the directory) spelled it as
you had it originally - MULLER so that's probably
right. My friend told me that a few years ago they moved away to
Indiana. Several of the Sewickley people who knew her have
sent Christmas cards etc. and have not received a reply.
That's all the scoop that I know.
Mary, July 2008
I have been able to
trace 1 from the Lost list, however, the address is 8 years old, and the
people who have sent letters and cards there, have not received replies,
so it's probably worthless, but here it is: Edith Cross -

Great news!! We heard from
Carol on July 22nd, 2008. She wants to come to the
reunion!
June 2008: Guys, I just talked with Carol's step
son Thomas Owens in Clinton, NY. He said Carol
is alive and well, but his wife maintains all the contact
info with her and she was not home. I sent him the email
below and he will get back to me with info about
her. Tom
thought she was still in the Wappingers Falls area to be
near her daughter . I'll let you know when I hear back from
him.
Tom
People

whereabouts? - May

October 2005, Hi Bill, I have moved from my townhouse to
an apartment in the next town -- no more yard work, house maintenance, etc.
So far I'm enjoying the change. My new phone for my new address below is

and I have been trying to get together for about a year now, and I hope we
will make it sometime soon. I still have my "camp" in the Adirondacks, and
the weather this summer was great! All of my children (3) spent some time
there. We are on a cove, and it's my favorite place to swim. (I swim at
the YWCA in the winter -- not as scenic, but still good exercise).
In July Debbie Huber Monroe
(class of '49) visited me. We have been friends since I was five years old
and went to the same college (Wheaton in Mass.). She has a grandson at
Hamilton College and came to visit him (and me) with another college friend
of mine. We had a super time here and at camp. Not many people get up to
the boonies, so I did appreciate her visit.
I recently got a new "mini"car, a
Scion, and I love it. Toyota built it for the 20's crowd, but it's sold
like hot cakes to all kinds of people (including Grammys like me). It's a
hatchback, very roomy inside, and a real gas saver (and we sure do need to
save on gas these days.) Got to the US Open tennis matches for 4 days in
Sept. (thanks to my sister-in-law) and it was very exciting to see most of
the top players. I'm a real Roger Federer fan! I still play in a
doubles group during the winter..
That's about it for now, Carol
June 2005: Just a note to tell you that I'm moving into an apartment
on July 8 in a nearby town. No more yard work and house maintenance
(still have a summer cottage to keep up, though).
My new address is:
10 Blackburn Ct.
New Hartford, NY 13413
I don't have my new phone # yet. More later.
Thanks for keeping us up-to-date on our classmates

I had occasion to fly to L.A. a couple weeks ago on business, and spent an

He is retired now

were fraternity brothers at Pitt. We had a great visit.

week for his 50th Medical School reunion. I picked him up and we had
a nice visit before he went back. He seems to be in good health.

February 2008:
Hope you are well. Very cold here today but we have had no snow--just
a lot of rain. Take care - I will look forward to hearing more about
the 60th!
Suzanne D. Williams
February 2005: Hi! I am well and still working! I retired from
my full, full time job as a Paralegal for Brown & Connery on January 20th,
2006 after 31 years there, but they wanted to know if I could still work
some so I go in 2 days per week--been doing that for a year on Tuesdays and
Wednesdays and some extra hours at home when the caseload warrants. It
keeps the old brain working and gets me out and about back with my great
office crew for a little while every week.
I
hosted our DBC Reunion this year in New Jersey at my home and my daughter's
( she had to move out for 5 days!) There were 8 of us--Ann
Pritchard,
Ann Bowman,
Nancy Godden,
Jeanne Vayda,
Ann Mosites,
Mary Murrie,
Mitzie Fantl, and me. Barbara
Adams got sick at the last minute and couldn't make it. We had a
great time--did some sightseeing to Winterthur and the Brandwine Museum in
Delaware and a day in Philadelphia to see the Liberty Bell. the Constitution
Center, Christ Church, Lemon Hill Mansion, and lunch at the Waterworks
overlooking the river and Boathouse Row. It was a fun time and
so great to see everyone. We do this every year.
Stay
well. It is great hearing about members in our class even though it is
sometimes so sad, but I guess we are at that age when sad news will
increase. Take care
Suzanne
From
Mary Murrie, January 2007
- Hi
Bill, thought you might like to see this
picture that was taken in October at Suzanne Divine
Williams' place. The lake in the background is right behind her
daughter's house, and the good looking group are from left:
Jeanne Vayda McCallum,
Ann Bowman McClymonds,
Mitzi Fantl Murphy,
Nancy Godden,
Anne
Mosites Miller, Suzanne Divine Williams, and
Ann Pritchard Evanson. I took the
picture. We had a wonderful 4 days together in the New Jersey, Philadelphia
area. (Click on image to enlarge)
June 2006 - Hi! I retired from my fulltime
job as a paralegal for Brown & Connery Law Firm on January 20th, 2006 after
30 years with the firm. I continue to work for them part-time on
Tuesdays and Wednesdays so that gives me 4 days off every week which is
really nice. The 2 days per week in the office keeps the old brain
working. I will be at the 60th--hopefully! My e-mail at home is
available from
Bill Erdman
as I don't want mine on a web site - so keep me in the loop. Thanks, Suzanne

2003:
Still
working
full,
full
time.
I
really
don't
have
any
exciting
activities
to
report.
Most
of
my
fun
comes
from
doing
things
with
my
family,
two
out
of
three
live
close
by
and
that
includes
my
only
grandchild
Brittany,
age
13.
I
was
very
involved
with
baby
sitting
until
this
past
year
when
all
of
a
sudden
she
was
all
grown
up
and
babysitting
other
little
ones.
I
look
forward
to
the
reunion
every
fall
with
the
group
of
DBC's.
We
have
had
2
years
at
Ann
Mosites's
home
in
West
Palm
Beach,
and
last
year
at
Mary
Murrie's
home
in
Savannah.
This
fall
it
will
be
almost
in
my
back
at
the
Jersey
Shore
at
Jeanne
Vaydas
home.
That
should
be
home.
Unfortunately
my
job
takes
up
the
majority
of
my
time.
I
have
been
a
Paralegal
at
this
law
firm
for
28
years.
I
do
love
the
work
because
they
let
me
do
everything
but
appear
in
court,
but
it
is
a
lot
of
hours.
One
of
these
days
I
will
retire
as
long
as
I
have
some
part-time
job
to
go
to.
Hope
you
are
well
and
I
will
look
forward
to
the
"55th"!
