November 2011 - Hi All. Still kicking but not hard enough to make the 65th reunion! My wife continues to be the light of my life after 58 years of marriage. Peace to you all. Jerry Goddard, Newmarket, New Hampshire February 2007: All is well here, just a little older which brings on some expected difficulties. This is the first year since 1964 that I haven't done some good skiing. But there is always next year. Our group grows smaller, but I hope to be with you at the 60th next year. I again this spring will be doing an overseas ministry, if you can call St. John, US, VI overseas. I hope you are well. Peace, Jerry
“The sun is shining, the grass is green ….” Remember the verse from that favorite holiday song, “White Christmas”? It’s about as old as we are! Well, here we are in New England in early December, usually the time for Jerry’s first foray onto the slopes, and the temperature is in the high 50’s. We’re still dreaming of a white Christmas while we plant bulbs in the still soft warm earth, and the robins linger longer. We can feel and see the changing patterns on our planet, both in the environment and among people, and we are concerned. Can we set aside all the worldly woes at this holiday season and glory in the beauty of the candles and carols, the garlands and guests, the magic of the Magi? How can we turn our backs on war and suffering neighbors around the world? I wonder what Jesus or Buddha, Mohammed or Moses would be doing if they walked the streets of the earth today. What would be their message to this troubled world? We need no more deaths or martyrs. We need truly compassionate, wise and visionary leaders. Do we dare hope for such a gift? But this is Christmas and we can dream of things far more weighty, intricate and beautiful than a snowflake. Let’s dream of that day of peace on earth with the blessings of freedom and justice for all humankind. We’ve had another eventful year. We’ve been so fortunate to have these great opportunities for interim ministries in fascinating parts of the world and making wonderful new friends. We spent almost 3 months last spring in that fascinating “down under” country of Australia. We were in Adelaide on the southern coast of South Australia which they claim to be the only state not settled as a penal colony, and they are quietly boastful of this fact. I’m not sure if we were more enthralled by the stately white trunked eucalyptus trees or the koala bears which clung high in their branches.
We too found the surrounding area where streams reflected the stately ghost gums silhouetted against the red rock to be a truly awesome place. We leave in February for St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands for a 10-week interim ministry. Now that’s hard to take!! Lots of changes in our family, and all very exciting news. Jan, our youngest daughter at 45 is pregnant with their first child and we all are overwhelmed with excitement! Linda is helping her husband begin a new solo medical practice. Spencer is a geriatrician and Linda will work with him in counseling the aged. Kirk has found his niche in the construction business, and is working as a supervisor in a large company in Portland, Me. remodeling churches and commercial buildings. All the grandkids are great, one in college, one about to enter, and 2 more not far behind. We do love living close to them all. They’ll be joining us on St. John for a few weeks’ escape from the New England winter. Snorkels for Christmas! Please join us as we celebrate new birth - of light, of peace, of freedom, and of babies born everywhere into a world of love and hope - for was this not the message of Jesus? We wish you all a very happy holiday season and a healthy new year. Peg and Jerry Goddard - Christmas ‘04 December 2003: Happy New Year Bill. I hope you are well as we enter the new year.
We are well and have had a very good year. We spent three months as
interim minister at a beautiful old Unitarian church in Hampstead, London.
Had our 50th A good down hill ski season has begun and we will be off to Adelaide, Australia ,for the months of March, April and May to do another interim ministry. It will be late summer and early fall there so we hope to use some of there many beaches, do some kayaking and explore some of the outback. Bill, we have lived at 220 Cushing Rd., Newmarket, New Hampshire since 1999 so maybe the address should be changed ? (Done) Stay well and have a good year. Peace, Jerry Goddard Unknown date: Minister Emeritus, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship I've been offered another exciting interim ministry position in Cape Town, South Africa for late February. 1999. We'll be there about 4 months. I continue to teach courses on Islam & the great monotheistic religions since my sabbatical in the Middle East 3 years ago. I am happy to say that wife Peg has been a good & faithful guide over the past 45 years. Where would men be without these strong, resourceful women? Last year we had a wonderful vacation in Scotland & Ireland. Can't forget our family reunion in New Hampshire either. Our families are growing & thriving in Boston & Freeport, Maine. We have 3 granddaughters and 1 grandson. (This was gleaned from their Christmas letter) Note of August 1999: Dear Bill, Peg and I returned from South Africa in mid July having completed an interim ministry at The Free Protestant Unitarian Church of Cape Town. Cape Town is a beautiful city in a country recovering from 40 years of apartheid fascism. A wonderful experience. We have been busy since returning as we moved into a new condo over looking the water at 220 Cushing Rd., Newmarket, New Hampshire, 03857. Retiring in N.H. puts us close to all 3 of our children and their families. I will be active with Planned Parenthood and hope to teach and do another overseas ministry. Jerry Goddard PS, Bill, this is my second note tonight - don't have a heart attack. I received an Activities Key in our junior year so I guess that's the reason it didn't make the yearbook. No big deal, but I keep seeing "Activities Key" mentioned other places every time I look at the website so I'm appealing for restitution, 51 years later. Peace, Jerry Goddard Christmas, 1999: Happy Holidays To All Our Dear Friends! As we gather around us the boughs and bows, lights and poinsettias, and all the symbols of the season which bring us a feeling of warmth and love, we look back over our past year and ponder the events which also brought us "comfort and joy" and challenge. '99 has been another year of change and "news" as we moved from New York to New Zealand to new South Africa and Finally to Newmarket, New Hampshire! It began when Jerry had an opportunity to do another interim ministry, this time in Cape Town. So in February off we went en circuitous route to South Africa by way of Auckland, NZ, visiting the church and friends with whom we spent 5 wonderful months last year. After a stop in Austrailia where we snorkeled on the Great Barrier Reef, we landed in SA where Jan joined us on a safari in Kruger Nat'l Park for a never to be forgotten and one might say religious experience. What a thrill to see the elusive leopard draped in a tree; during a night drive to spy on a lion courtship (as only a coy feline can perform!); to encounter another 2 lazy. engorged males who moved in after the lioness had made the kill (served the dinner?!) to guard the downed and devoured giraffe; to watch the sun set as it silhouetted the skeleton of a vulture perched tree, to see 3 hippos lazily snoozing with only eyes and nostrils breaching the water, while a sharp eyed crocodile facing upstream tensely braced with enormous mouth agape waiting for an easy catch; and being nose to nose with baboons (through glass!) as they hitched a ride on our car with their babes clutched to their underbellies. And oh, the elephants! These great beasts who so lovingly guarded their young as they stopped to challenge us with huge ears flapping. The wonders, wildness and wisdom of Africa!! Then on we went to Cape Town where we lived for 3 1/2 months at the foot of majestic - Table Mountain which rises from the sea and wraps protectively around the city. The moist Atlantic air rising over the mountain brings a cloud which drapes like a table cloth over its rim until the ceaseless "nurse winds" howl for days and lift the cloth. Such a mystical sight! This is a very spiritual mountain for many who live here, and one can easily capture the reverence surrounding it. If only the stability of the mountain prevailed on the political scene. As South Africa goes through transition from apartheid to democracy and as the balance of power between the races is adjusting, there is an enormous challenge to all. It is such a complex society and now with its new president, Mbeki, who was elected while we were there, watchful waiting and unrest mix with hope for the future of the new SA. There is violence engulfing the city as the blacks and coloreds claim "historical justice"; as the Township's jobless and homeless claim their rightful freedoms and move into the city and suburban parks, and those more fortunate people add higher walls, locks and electric wires. There are such conflicting emotions of fear and compassion which we felt strongly during our stay. But there is also a very strong sense of hope for a peaceful resolution among most of the South Africans we met. We grew to love and respect the people of this vastly diverse and beautiful country where gardens bloom in absolute glory in one of the world's richest botanic regions. We cherish the time we went and formed friendships which we treasure. There is a quiet, gentle with the wonderful people of the Unitarian church there, a gentile strength among the among the folks in SA, perhaps supported by that magical mountain, and a determination to continue in the path set by their great leader and role model, Nelson Mandela. Change is in the wind. We pray for it to be peaceful. We too have been in transition since our return in July. We moved into our new condo which we bought hastily 2 weeks prior to our African sojourn. Our new home in New Hampshire is west of Portsmouth on Great Bay, a bio-diverse estuary alive with herons, osprey, eagles, and not 7 but 37 swans a'swimming!! It is a gloriously peaceful and beautiful spot making retirement all the more delightful. Sharing space 24 hours a day is taking some adjusting, however! We're just an hour's drive from all our kids and grandkids who become more treasured to us as we and they all grow older. (Yes, older! I went to my 50"' high school reunion this summer!) It's great to be more a part of their concerts and sports and lives. Yes, life for us has been blessed. We realize just how fortunate we are as we spend time in developing countries and see how difficult life is for so many. Perhaps as we enter this new century we can use our great prosperity as individuals and as a nation to lift our hands and hearts to injustice and poverty. It can be an amazing 21' century for all the world's children. .And that's the news from Newmarket! Merry Christmas. Happy New Year and New Century! Peg and Jerry From 1958 Reunion Newsletter: HOMER GODDARD. Per Dave Miller (Deceased): Jerry went to Dennison (Economics). Was in the Army OCS program (Forts Sill & Lewis). Discharged as a 1st Leut. Now works for Alcoa (Packaging Sales) Children: Linda 3, Kirk 1 ½. 408 Quan St., Kirkwood 22, Missouri.

Hi, Bill, This is a new e-mail address. Still live at 2113 NE 15th Ave., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33305. Last year I had a wonderful 80th Birthday on July 26th. I told my children I was planning my own party and I made my own "horsey" invitations and took family and friends to Caulder Racetrack for a fabulous day at the races. I decorated red jockey caps for everyone, we had dinner and horsey favors, etc. Caulder even named the 6th race after me - "Fleming's 80th Birthday Classic". No one had ever been to the races before so they bet a little, won some money and we all had lots of fun. By the way I've used my middle name, "Fleming", for the past 30 years. (An art teacher suggested it.) Hope all is well with you and your family, Regards, Fleming (Nancy) - September 2011 - (Since this web site doesn’t publish e-mail addresses, you can get it by contacting me.) July 2010: I'm still alive and in good health, so to speak. Just had my 80th birthday and took my kids and grandkids and some friends to the racetrack for a day of fun. Even had a race, #9, name for me - "Fleming's 80th Birthday Classic." It was loads of fun and I even won some money. If I can figure out how to send a picture, I will. June 2010: I have a new e-mail address - Email Bill and he will forward it to you. Not much new. Working part-time because of the lousy economy. Hot as hell here in Ft. Lauderdale. They say the heat is hard on old people and I'm one of them (but I'm not old!). Still hanging in there and spry and ornery as ever. Four children and four grandkids happy and healthy but having a tough time with this economy. My daughter, Lynde, asked me what I wanted to do for my 80th birthday and I told her I wanted to go to Caulder Race Track and watch the horses run. I'm a big fan of the "ponies". Hope to make the 65th reunion. Best Wishes to all. Nancy February 2007: Jeanne Vayda says to send updates so I am doing so. Life is normal, health is ok (usual aches and pains and stomach problems.) Just got back from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where I spent two weeks with an art group I sometimes travel with (Flying Colors Art Workshops). The first week I took a course in Photoshop CS2 and the woman artist, Linda Doll, who taught it was the most fabulous computer expert I have ever seen. She knew everything about Macs or PCs and I learned a lot about how to manipulate Photoshop and have it do all kinds of "arty" things. (I shall send you a picture of my head on Heidi Klum's body!) It should have been a two week course as there was still more to learn. The second week was with a Water Color instructor, Frank Webb, and that was also very informative. However, the only time I paint is when I take a course as I never seem to have time to do it at home. I volunteer at one of the hospitals here in Ft. Lauderdale, and I run the Gift Shop there plus substitute teach at Ft. L. High School and of course my four children and four grandchildren keep me busy too. I am really looking forward to our next reunion (I refuse to say 60th) as I enjoy seeing all those old friends and hopefully I will have more time to talk to everyone. I ran out of time at the 50th and didn't get around to at least speaking a few words to all. I don't know what I can do to help, but I will help if needed. Maybe Buddy can think of something for me to do. That's all for now, Ciao, Nancy
June 2006 - So sorry to hear the news of Dave Lucas' death. I dated him in high school and always considered him a super nice guy. Good looking too. I'm sure he will be sadly missed. Not much from me. Still alive and kicking. I am busy volunteering at one of our hospitals ( I run the gift shop) and fixing up my home and yard. I like to work in the yard in the evening. It's too hot in the day. Don't seem to find time for my art anymore unless I go on a painting tour. Hope to do that next year to Italy and Mexico. Children and grandkids are all doing well, thank goodness. I have the usual aches and pains but I just ignore them. As my Aunt Clara used to say, "Old age is hell." Time is passing by so
fast; I never seem to get the October 2005: The first week of September the annual "DBC" reunion was held at my home in Lake Barrington, IL, a suburb of Chicago. It was five days of talking and eating. We spent two days in Chicago seeing the sights including the new Millennium Park (which is great fun and like no other park), the Architectural Boat Tour on the Chicago River (a must do) and a night on the town. We told everyone that would listen who we were and that we had graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1948. We hope "they" were impressed!
July 2005 - Hi, Bill! I have some sad news to report. Grant Johnson died on July 12th. at a hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was 75 years old and lived in Ft. Lauderdale with his second wife. He was a real estate appraiser in Broward County, but retired for many years. He was previously married to Nancy Godden for 25 years and they have 4 children - Lee Alden Johnson (boy), Lane Christine Johnson (girl), Lynde Sue Johnson Voet, and Tia Paige Johnson Fabiszewski. They have 4 grandchildren. I am fine and still living in Ft. Lauderdale with my children and grandchildren close by. In September, I will be meeting my old high school friends, the DBC "gang" in Chicago for our annual reunion. Unfortunately, not all of us are able to meet each year and we've lost a few dear ones along the way, but there are usually 9 or 10 of us. This year our hostess is Ann Pritchard Evanson, and the rest of the group will be Suzanne Divine Williams, Ann Mosites Miller, Ann Bowman McClymonds, Jeanne Vayda McCallum, Mitzie Fantl Murphy, Peggy Crissman Funkhouser, Mary Murrie Hardy and of course "moi". I have some old pictures to send you but I will have to send them by "snail mail" because I haven't learned the scanner yet. My best to you and your family, Fleming (Nancy)
Barbara Adams Norris sent this picture of the latest "DBC" reunion
in Stone Harbor, NJ, July 7th, 2003. (See picture below) Suzanne Divine Williams, Jeanne Vayda McCallum, Ann Bowman McClymonds, Barbara Adams Norris, Roseanne McIlvane Casey, Ann Mosites Miller, Nancy Godden, Ann Pritchard Evanson and Mary Murrie Hardy. (Click to enlarge) July 2003: Hi everyone! New e-mail address. Sorry I won't be at the 55th reunion . I had a ball at our 50th and I will miss seeing everyone. However, I am going to Russia the first week in September so I can't do both. I will be taking the "Imperial Russian Waterways" cruise. A 14-day river cruise tour from St. Petersburg to Moscow with 13 tours & cultural connections such as the Hermitage museum, the Moscow circus, the Bolshoi Ballet, and many towns along the way. I have been wanting to take this trip for a long time and so I am going!!! I'll send a picture when I get back. Have a wonderful time at reunion and I'll definitely be at the 60th. Fleming (Nancy) October, 2002: Hi Bill & Bob! I wasn't lost. I just didn't have a working computer for a long time, but now it's fixed and I'm back on line. I moved back to Ft. Lauderdale in November 1999 when I sold my Bed & Breakfast, The Duck Farm Inn, in Urbanna, VA; on the Rappahannock River in the Chesapeake Bay area. My 4 children (son, Lee; daughters, Lane, Lynde and Tia) and my 4 grandchildren (Tyler, Sydney (girl), Madison (girl) and Ashley) all live here so now we're close. I'm not working but always busy (the creativity never stops). I volunteer at a local hospital, managing the gift shop for the Auxiliary and helping my daughters with their preschool when asked. Used to travel, but haven't done any lately (stock market, you know!) Would like to take that China trip with Carnegie Mellon Alumni this May (anyone want to come?) I had such a good time at the last reunion (didn't have time to talk to everyone) that I'm looking forward to the next one - 2003, right? I'm meeting some of my girlfriends from Mt. Lebanon (Suzanne, etc.) this November for our 3rd annual reunion. We started this after the 50th. Lots of fun. Best Wishes and Happy Holidays to All. Fleming (Nancy) P.S. Been using Fleming for the past 25 years, since my art professor told me to drop the Nancy. My kids like it, but my grandchildren just call me "Nana". Bye!

We have decided not to attend. Redding is very difficult to fly out of. I have to drive to Sacramento, which is a three hour drive, and then fly to Pittsburgh from there. So, I thank you again but I think I shall decline. Nancy – July 2008. It is getting close to the 60th Reunion which you have me on the list as attending, but at this date I am not certain, Do you have a motel / hotel secured where us out-of-towners can stay which is close to South Hill Country Club? We will be flying in and will not have transportation. I have not received any information from you on the reunion. I know you have my email address so please send the information. To bring you up-to-date on our family, we celebrated our 50th Anniversary in 2006 with all the family coming to Redding. My sister, Pat also came with her daughter. There were our three children, spouses and 7 grandchildren. After that Harry, my husband and I went on a month long cruise to South America on the Queen Mary 2. Last summer we went to Alaska on a 7 day cruise. Redding is a wonderful place to live although very hot summers but mild winters. Two of our children still live in Seattle area and the oldest son and family now live in Redding . Our first grandson graduated from High School last year and is currently working for a subsidiary of Boeing in Seattle. The second grandson (Redding) graduates this June and has been accepted at Ca. San Diego. He will be receiving several scholarships. We hope to be able to attend the 60th but it will depend on my husband's health. March 30th 2008 - (Posted late because WebMaster missed the email.) I am not sure I will be attending the Reunion as my husband is dragging his feet. He has never attended with me and I think it is time. It is a long trip for us and air travel is not fun. I will decide in plenty of time. Actually since it is usually about 115 degrees in August in Redding, it will probably be cooler back in Mt. Lebanon. We have just returned from spending a month in Phoenix, AZ playing golf and going to Spring Training Baseball games. My health is still good but my hubby is slowing down. That's what I get for marrying an older man 52 years ago. When I get organized here again I plan so forward some pictures of our super large family. Hope to see everyone in August. March 12, 2008 - (Posted late because WebMaster missed the email.) Been very busy. After the South America Cruise in January (26 days), we took a cruise to Alaska followed by a Retired Northwest pilots reunion in Reno. I also was finally accepted into the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) after working on the research for almost two years. My Pilot husband is fine and so is ex-stew Nancy. We have three children, two in Seattle and one in Redding. Then we also have five grandchildren in Seattle and two in Redding. My sister Patricia Gregory Jones (class of 57) lost her husband Donald Jones two years ago and went to her 50th reunion a month ago and is now dating one of the graduates in her class. Guess they dated in high school. Very happy for her. Hope to see all at the 60th next year. – Oct 2007 (Posted late because WebMaster missed the email.) February 2007: I just found your wonderful web site. It's fantastic, what a great job. I have moved again or rather my husband, Harry and I have. We now live in Redding, CA. We have just returned from a cruise aboard the Queen Mary 2 to South America on the round the world cruise. My new address is 1643 Spanish Bay Drive in Redding. We have three children and 7 grandchildren. So sorry to hear about Joy and also Kash and so many others. Any thoughts on where the 60th will be? Again congratulations on the web site. Nancy From 1958 Reunion Newsletter: NANCY GREG0RY Detwiler. Per Reunion information - Husband is a Commercial Pilot and they live in Seattle, Washington.

Attendance Squad, GAA, Honor Roll, Home Room Secretary and Vice-President, Y-Teens Received an interesting e-mail that illustrates how we influence other without even realizing it. It also reminds us to remember those that touched our lives over the years. - Bill Hi! I used to ride the bus to Pgh from Mt. Lebanon, and one of the nice ladies who rode the bus with me was a Glenna Carney of Mt. Lebanon. I was 22, and I think Glenna at the time, was in 1981, was in her late 50s or early 60s. I remember enjoying her company mostly on the way to work, and we got together a couple times with other bus friends for lunch....I have thought of her fondly over the years, but have lost touch. I am now 53. I tried to google her ot see if she was still in the area and came upon our website. Her high school photo looks like the older Glenna I remember and I recall her laugh! Your note said that she was now in a nursing home. Could you please share where that might be? I'd love to at least send her a card. I now live in North HIlls and rarely get to Mt. Lebanon, but she was kind and friendly to me. I remember she was widowed, I think, and had one or two small dogs at her home. Best regards, Cheryl Stewart-Miller - November 2011 If you have any information about Glenna to add, let us know. August 2008 - The search for Glenna has been a study in perseverance and tenacity by Tom & Bob:

can't make the 60th. My wife and I have signed up for a

It sounds like a great response. On 8/23 will be in St.

I went to a girls college in VA and then on to Grove City College where I met my husband Bob. We have two sons here in Pgh. and one in N. Carolina. We have nine grandchildren ranging in age from 3rd grade to college. My husband is retired and we sold our larger home to one of our sons & built a smaller home in a nice development near Canonsburg Dam (out route 19). It has a clubhouse, pool, tennis court etc. and we are enjoying it. I lunch with Sally Fellows O'Conner, Donna K. Simmonds Thomas and Ruth Jackson Coate. Ruth and I also play tennis together. I also am in a bowling league with Jeanine Howell Hershey. Bob and I are not Fla. people so we have taken many trips. We just came back from a Panama Canal Cruise that was great. It's too bad that we didn't get to know more of our classmates in school ---- then we wouldn't draw so many blanks on names. My best to all, Claire Hatch Moore

February 2003: Thanks for the information about the class web site. It’s hard to believe it will soon be 55 years since leaving high school. It’s sometime even harder for me too believe I’m still around. Ruth and I are looking forward to the upcoming reunion, although, I doubt that we’ll recognize many others there. As for my (our) activity over these years, I would have to say the most significant thing I have done is to have married my high school sweetheart (Ruth Labrenz, also class of 48) in 1952 and in bringing up three outstanding young sons. During this time, I spent twenty-one years in the military (both stateside and overseas) and an additional nineteen years as a civilian with the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Several years prior to our retirement, we started building a home on the water in Reedville, VA. In 1991, we sold our home in Fairfax, VA, and moved here permanently. Health permitting, we still enjoy fishing and sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. Lou Hazel

They have lived there a long time as this is the same address as in our 25 year reunion brochure in 1973. I think I've located John Humphreys in Atlanta. Using Google I've found a Dr. John L. Humphreys there. Our John was the son of a physician and this John is listed as an opthamologist, having graduated from the Med School at the U. of Pittsburgh 52 years ago. That sounds about the right vintage. Address is 2255 Shasta Way Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30345. June 2001 - Jack's wife's name is "Curly" and is also his secretary. From 1958 Reunion Newsletter: JOHN HUMPHREYS, Capt., US Army. Attended Denison University ‘48‑‘52, Pitt Medical School ‘52‑‘56. Interned at Blodgett Memorial Hosp., Grand Rapids, Mich. Married Barbara Mooers (MtL ‘54). Stationed now at Aschoffenburg, Germany. Hq. Bty, 1st Obs.
