Just
after the monsoon season in Pennsylvania, Joan writes:
Nothing to say and tired of all the rain and floods we have had. I
am one of the lucky ones – no problems caused by the weather or
anything else for that matter. Hope all is well with you. Joan
- September 2011
Joan writes: I wish to contribute the fact that I have nothing
of note to contribute! My health is still good although my
hearing is almost gone. Fortunately for me, technology has kept up
with my losses and I hear most of what I want to hear. And thank
goodness for “closed captioning.” Joan – April 2011
I'm still
around and planning to be for quite a while. I keep busy with a
project for the Franklin Institute which I can do on my home
computer. And I have finally gotten around to organizing my
vacation photos from an Easter Island trip in 2006 and my 2nd trip
to Antarctica in 2009. It is not a good idea to wait so long to do
this. Memories tend to lose specifics. Joan, May 2010
June 2008:
Hi. This is my first entry to your information on-line. I
moved to Maryland in 1966 and lived there for 38 years.
Moved to Audubon, PA to be with my cousins. Since I was
born in Philadelphia most of my relatives (except my brother
who lives in Vermont) live in the Philly area. I have lived
in Shannondell at Valley Forge for a little over 4 years.
No cooking! No Cleaning! What more could I want? So
that's it. Joan

July 2008 - Hi
Bob Woeber, thanks for all
the work in organizing the 60th Mt Lebanon Class of 1948

with (3) guests. . . my sisters.

@ 60th Reunion
Life has been good.
After High School I attended secretarial school then worked for
Pennsylvania Railroad for 3 years. Married an electrical engineer /
reserve captain in the Marine Corp in 1953 and moved to Chicago.
Married 37 years and have 2 great sons, both electrical engineers
and 4 grandchildren ‑ 1 a chemist, 1 a computer programmer, 1 in
high school and one18mos old. I married again in 1994 to a
wonderful man, a metallurgist with a PhD and 4 grown sons, 1 a
dentist and 3 electrical engineers. On my husband's side 6
grandchildren ‑ 2 in college, 3 in high school and 1 in grade
school. We are proud of all of them.
My husband Jim
and I are enjoying good health. I have had my own interior design
company while living in St. Louis. Mission work has been an
important part of my life by volunteering: I went to Louisiana two
times after hurricane Katrina to gut houses, helped build homes for
Habitat for Humanity, prepare and serve meals at a local soup
kitchen, once a week volunteer to help a family with quadruplets ...
makes me realize that we all need help sometime in our lives.
Looking forward to
the Reunion! Your classmate, Myra

July 2008: I
talked with Anne on the phone today and this is what I
gleaned from the conversation: Following High School Anne
went to Hood College, Fredrick, MD, for 2 years then to Carnegie
Tech where she graduated. Married Jim Troutman in 1953
and had 4 children - Kim (1 grandchild), twins Molly
(3 grandchildren) and Alice (2 grandchildren) and Phillip.
Moved around a lot as her husband was in the military but settled in
Darrien, CT.
Later she married
Don Fair and remained in Darrien for about 12 years where she
did some Market Research work until she moved to Bonita Springs, FL.
Anne lives by herself in a condo and has been active in
various historical and community projects.
She sounded great and just as enthusiastic as I
remember her. She and
Carol
Davis are planning to come to the reunion.

Hi
Bill,
Thanks for the update. I assume that, though the yearbook

have sent my money to

under Ann Pritchard Evanson.
The committee sure
has worked hard and planned a wonderful weekend. I'll be staying
with Anne Mosites Miller along with some
of the other widows. Bill Miller will have a houseful of
women to contend with. We're really excited about the 60th and look

Again, thanks

October 2005:
The first week of September the annual "DBC"
reunion was held at my home in Lake Barrington, IL, a suburb of Chicago. It
was five days of talking and eating. We spent two days in Chicago seeing
the sights including the new Millenium Park (which is great fun and like no
other park), the Architectural Boat Tour on the Chicago River (a must do)
and a night on the town. We told everyone that would listen who we were and
that we had graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1948. We hope "they"
were impressed!
This picture was taken after a long day of touring and shopping so we're
a little worse for the wear. Not bad, considering! Seated: (L to R)

started again to travel, although it's not the same it is ok.

LOUISE
RANDALL (Walsh)
P.O.Box 1225
Friendswood, TX 77549
Hello from
hot hot Houston. I have a new email address to report. Now
that I have this spiffy Mt Lebanon High School Roster I feel like a
part of the "old" (in the nicest sense of the word) family and do
not want to be left out of any of the family news. I am
excited about the probability of visiting Mt. Lebanon on September
19th to attend the marriage of my younger daughter's daughter.
I have not been back home since 1984 when my mother died. I
think it is amazing that this granddaughter from Baltimore has
fallen in love with a young man born and raised in Pittsburgh.
I am delighted. The only thing that would make me happier
would be if my darling husband could travel with me, but his health
does not permit such an extended trip. I will have to take a
thousand pictures for him. 'Bye for now.
Louise Walsh – August 2009
Classmates of 48,
my husband and I had looked forward to attending the reunion with
joyful anticipation. His recent illness and extended
stay in the hospital, however, have made our travels impossible. We
are both terribly disappointed.
Please say hello
to everyone for me and let me know how the celebration went.
I want to stay "connected" and would love to receive a directory of
people and their addresses, if possible. I want to be able to
communicate with written words if not by face to face contact.
Bill is now at home
trying to recover from his heart and circulation problems. Progress
is very slow. With much appreciation and warm regards,
Louise Randall Walsh – August 2008
June 2008:
Tom,
It has been such a joyful experience to visit with you and to feel
reattached to those classmates of bygone days. Thank you for your
perseverance and resourcefulness in finding me. You are a
super sleuth. I am looking forward to perusing the internet site to
learn more about everybody.
As for me, aside
from growing old which I try to ignore, I have worked most of these
years in an educational setting. I retired for a month five
years ago but missed working so much that I resumed work at a place
a friend of mine discovered. It sounded like a challenge! It is
many miles from our home in a school district that is very wealthy
because of tax dollars from industry. The location is
near the Houston ship channel, the second or third largest ship
channel in the U.S., so they say. As you can imagine,
the environment (and the kids) are very interesting. This last year
I have been located in one of the high schools. The reason I
mention this is because as I look back at our graduating class and
then look at the 600 plus kids that just graduated from the school
where I've been, ---well, words escape me. A different world
altogether.
As for me, nine
days from today Bill and I will have been married 35 years.
We met at "Parents Without Partners" where we discovered that some
of our kids already knew each other. I have two daughters
from my first marriage and he has four girls from his previous
marriage. They were all born between August 1953 and March
1959. We have two sets of girls that were born 10 days apart,
so it was rather like having two sets of twins. I am happy to
say that they are all married and all have dear children of their
own.
And now, I best
sign off which I do with a word of thanks to you and your team of
'48 graduates. I would love to attend the reunion, and hope
that we can. Bill has had heart problems that
have brought about a slowing down in his activities. I will
keep you updated regarding our intentions.
With hugs all around, Louise Randall Walsh
June 2008:
Louise returned my call tonight and was excited that I had
located her. She gave me her email address,. She said
her mail address is PO Box 1225, Friendswood, TX 77549 so use this
in the roster, not the street address I sent you. The phone is
correct at 281-482-6434. I said you would email her an
invitation and she sounded like she might consider coming.
Like you, she said she was still working but I didn't ask what she
does. She sounded great and said they have lived there
in their house there for 34 years. I emailed her the
website so she's looking forward to seeing it as she was unaware of
it. -
Tom
June 2008: BINGO!
Here is Edgar Mitchell's reply regarding his former wife,
Louise Randall. I looked her up on People Search and she
is listed as age 77 with names of Louise Elizabeth Walsh
and Louise Randall Walsh. He husband is listed as
William C. Walsh. I called her, but unfortunately got an
answer machine and left my phone number. At least I have found
her.
Bill,
in the meantime, you can move her from Lost to Alive and well in
Friendswood, TX with her current married name. -

November 2011:
Hi all...I seem
to have been traveling a lot...To England in 2009, seeing beautiful English
Gardens, with a week in London where daughter Jenny and I saw Prince
William "up close and personal." Then a lo-o-ng road trip in 2010 visiting
Niagara Falls, the Cleveland Rock and Roll Museum, Chicago highlights,
Wisconsin Dells and Frank LLoyd Wrights "Taliesin," all kinds of touristy
spots in South Dakota...then to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Yellowstone, the
Grand Tetons...and finally to Portland, Oregon, for a grandson's wedding.
And in there somewhere, we visited the house I grew up in, in Cleveland,
Ohio. There was a Fall 2010 wedding north of Pittsburgh and a summer 2011
wedding in Colorado Springs, followed by trips to Portland and Seattle,
Washington. For that trip, I came back by train...a favorite way to
travel. Then later this summer, lots of family to our cottage in New
Hampshire, where we celebrated a grandson's birthday with a hurricane. Now
back to real life, in Oswego, New York. For a while...............Cheers...Nancy
Linn.
November 2010:
Hy all...It's back
to real life in Oswego, after a great couple of road trips this summer. The
first...visiting national parks and monuments and fun tourist attractions
across this beautiful country of ours, on the way to a grandson's wedding in
Portland, Oregon. And the second, last month driving to Pittsburgh (the
first time in years) for yet another wedding. I had almost forgotten how
grand a view of the city can be had from the top of Mount Washington. Or
how bewildering driving can be getting from place to place!. Lovely trips,
both. My best to all...Nancy.

this year, although mine was not returned. This does happen....
And
thank you for the invitation to the 60th (would you believe?) reunion.
I won't be there, as I'll be in New Hampshire then...but I certainly will be
thinking of you. I do enjoy the bits of news of classmates that you
continue to send.
News?
My husband, Chuck, died last fall. Almost 53 years married, and
he's sorely missed. I did take a wonderful trip to Italy this Spring,
with three daughters. The trip...to Venice, Florence and Rome, and
some in-between cities...was all too short.
I'll
hope to hear news from the reunion. My best to all...Nancy (Rankin)
Linn
February 2007: I just finished
reading the latest email about fellow classmates from Mt. Lebanon.
I knew all three of the Schwartz ladies...special people all. I
particularly knew
Tudy and
Jenny..(Florence
and
Jane Ewing). Jenny
was such a talented piano player. I was told that
she was active in the Christian Science Church.
Carol Davis
Owens
and I enjoyed a "reunion" lunch in Syracuse, NY, over a year ago.
Carol
has since moved to eastern New York. And I hope she
has missed the snow that we've had in Oswego County. We have a lotta snow!
But the snow has sent us many emails and phone calls from family and
friends, with a long call from our matron-of-honor,
Shirley Johnson Rogers.
She called from the Cleveland, Ohio, area...and since that is also a "lake
effect snow" region, guess we've "won" for this year.
Nancy Rankin Linn
Hy
Bill...and
thank you for the special pictures and greeting. I so enjoy your Mt.
Lebanon web-site and information.
Carol Davis Owens
and I had a lovely lunch / get-together in Syracuse in
October, and had fun sharing old photos and memories. We both live in
central New York, but this is the first time to visit. I've also had good
phone calls and emails from friend
Shirley Johnson Rogers.
And all this because of your Internet site.
Our wishes to you and yours for a special
Holiday Season. Nancy Rankin Linn.

December 2005
June 2004: Hy
Bill...I
do so enjoy reading about Class news, and you'll be pleased to know I've
resumed correspondence with classmate and Matron-of-Honor
Shirley Johnson
Rogers
through your web-site.
There's not a whole lot new...we braved yet another wild and snowy Upstate
New York winter in Oswego.
Chuck
and I expect summer company from daughters, husbands and grandsons...and
will travel to our New Hampshire cottage in August. I did have a grand
reunion with cousins that I grew up with in Cleveland, Ohio, in Tampa,
Florida, this spring.
I
am having my "fifteen minutes of fame" and the enclosed photo (click to
enlarge) is shown with a quilt I designed and made, "Colors of My Life,"
which is published in the June / July issue #8 of QuiltWorks Today.
They mistakenly called our quilting group the "Sunbelt Quilters," instead of
the real name of "Snobelt Quilters." Must have been wishful thinking!
Best...Nancy Linn
August 2003: Hy
Bill...and
thank you so much for the wonderful web site. I've enjoyed
learning about old friends, and still have many more names to check.
This has been an unusually busy summer, but one of these days I'll send a
longer update. My husband,
Chuck, and I celebrated a 50th Anniversary this past Fall, and enjoy
visits from our five offspring, with husbands / wives / eight grandsons.
We've lived in Oswego, New York, for 38 years...cold and snowy winters, but
beautiful summers on Lake Ontario.
Chuck
is a retired college teacher (SUNY Oswego), and I've been making quilts for
some 30 years.

August 2010 - Now I have reached the 'magic' age also.
Still fairly healthy but don't see or hear as well as I'd like.
Planning to return to AZ this Nov. Love to see anyone that
visits Phoenix this Winter. - Paul
We are leaving our winter home in Fountain Hills, AZ on May 2.
I have some aches & pains but still trying to play golf. Have
enjoyed a great winter. Hope all is well with all of you!! -
April 2010
Janet and I are about to return to Minnesota from Arizona.
I've had an operation on my legs and am walking somewhat better.
Loved seeing everyone at the 60th. Will try like mad to make
the
65th
- Paul, May 2009
February 2008 - Right now
I plan to attend with my new wife, Janet. Paul
August 2006:
My first wife of 50+ years died in early 2004 after a long illness. I met
Janet in August of 2004 and married her in May of 2005. We live in
Fountain Hills AZ 6 months and Maple Grove MN 6 months.
Have traveled to France &
Italy -- New Zealand and Australia since we got hitched. Planning trip to
Vienna this fall. Janet has 4 kids so we have 5 around us and I have
one in Salem, OR.
Am going to try hard to make the 60th. Best regards to all. Paul C. Rhodes
Yes,
Martha
and I were married on Sept 9, 1953. Another Harvard guy.
Incidentally
Martha
is still in a nursing home here. She's very gradually getting worse.

Igor Alexeff's
50th wedding celebration notice -
March 2004
November 2003: We would have liked to come to the 55th.
However,
Martha
has either been in a nursing facility or hospital since July 29th. She
has brain cancer and it's robbing her of her mind. I go to the
facility every day.
My brother and I went to AZ where
Martha
and I have a home. We brought all the stuff back and are renting it
this winter.
Martha's outlook is muddied but she needs more help than I can give her
alone. You may not know but
Dave Lucas
also has a rare disease, but his outlook is better than
Martha's.
I wish you all a very happy and healthy holiday season and a great New Year.
My plans are on hold for a while.
Paul
July 2003:
Bill: We are not going to make it this year.
Martha
has gotten much worse and I have prostate cancer and am going to need Knee
surgery. Love to be
there ---- maybe next time.
Paul C. Rhodes
I would like to come to the 55th. My problem is that my wife has a
brain tumor and shouldn't be left alone very long. She has told me to
go to it, but has other stuff wrong also. If I can find someone to
stay with her I'll come. Right now we're in Fountain Hills, AZ.
We plan to return to the Twin Cities in May. Regards,
Paul Rhodes,

Congratulations on finding
Herb Kindle!!!
(Now deceased - January 2007) Please send me his E-mail or snail mail
address.
We had an uneventful fall and winter. We went to Arizona in January
and stayed until April. We opted out of the super cold and snow in
Minnesota.
Martha
had a problem with her lungs but everything worked out OK with her biopsy.
We stopped in Santa Fe, NM on the way home from Arizona and remained there
longer than planned. I had an acute gall bladder attack and had to
call 911. Seven days later I left the hospital minus the gall bladder
but with a serious case of atrial fibrillation.
We cancelled a trip to St. Petersburg, Russia, because of the ill health.
We are planning to take a trip to Lake Louise and what have you in the late
summer with the kids and grandkids. Am still playing golf, but alas
nowhere near as well as bygone days.
Paul
&
Martha Rhodes
August, 2000: We went to Rome and Florence last summer and did all the
tourist things. We saw Capri, Naples, and the Leaning
Tower of Pisa.
Martha
had her 50th high school reunion in September of 1999. They looked as
old as we did!
We went on a cruise to Australia and New Zealand and enjoyed it. We
would recommend it to everyone.
We spent the winter in Fountain Hills, AZ .
Paul
enjoys playing golf and swimming.
Martha
goes swimming and catches up with the movies. We have some relatives
there also. Our health is fair and hope to make the 55th.

checking in with some bio info which should take me off the guilt trip you
have had me on for the last year.
I attended Purdue for most of my engineering (Civil) education but my degree
is from Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie-Mellon University). A year long
bout with cancer came in between and it was a slow process getting back on
my feet and I ended up with my father's engineering firm where I remained
for all of my career. Our firm's primary business was bridge design
and in 1985 we were acquired by the international architectural /
engineering firm of HDR of Omaha. I retired in July of 1989.

Betty Armstrong
of Forest Hills, L.I. in August of 1953 and
Betty
passed away of cancer in January of 1972 when our children were 8, 10, and
14.
Remarried in July of 1973 when I did the greatest sales job of my life to
Peggie Purcell
of Pittsburgh and our marriage has been blessed with two children.
The children are somewhat scattered although
Kathy
the oldest lives here with husband,
Rick, a V.P. with National City Bank, and their two sons who are 8 and
11.
Kevin
lives in Charlotte where he is General Manager of the Ryerson Steel plant.
He and wife
Kathy
have a daughter 4 and a son 1.
Sue
lives in Orlando where she is the counselor at Reedy Creek Elem. School in
Kissimmee.
Son
Mark
is also in Charlotte where he is the Mgr. of Cutter's Cigar Bar in the
Marriott City Center Hotel.
Kirstin
is now a freshman at Indiana University in Bloomington which means there are
no children rattling around the house for the first time in 42 years.
Now that we are empty nesters we expect to do some traveling although we
both have mothers to worry about. |

November
2011 - Hi,
Bill-
Thanks for your continued effort to keep us together as a
class. No big news - most of it medical. I had one day
this summer my back didn't hurt, and I shot my age (80).
Otherwise, my golf wasn't pretty, except that I still could
play, although not at a level I enjoyed. Hope all well
with you - the web site has become ever more imp't to
those of us from MtL '48, and I'm sure the others appreciate
that as much as I do. Stay well and enjoy the holidays.
Bob Rink
August 2010:
Thanks,
Bill,
for another '48 update - you really serve us all so well. I'm doing
well - remarried 3 years ago last week after losing Ginny in
1/06. Keep busy with church and golf. Handicap has gone from 9 to
19, a somewhat unpleasant trip, but still have the occasional good
round - an 83 two weeks ago, just 4 shots over my age. The
computer wouldn't believe me when I entered the score for handicap
purposes. Stay well and thanks again for all you do to keep us
together as THE Class of '48. Bob Rink
February 2008: Thanks for your diligence,
Bob
and
Bill.
Hope to see you in August.
June 2006 -
Thanks for keeping us in
touch. My info not good - my wife of almost 53 years,
Ginny Saunders
(Class of '49), died in January while we were wintering in
Phoenix. I am afloat, but without rudder or sails.

June 2008:
Betty Jean Robb (Wilt). I just spoke with her
on the phone and she and Paul are still alive, but in
total retirement and they don't travel anymore so can't
expect her at the reunion. I said
Bob
would mail her an invitation anyway.
Paul
does the computer, and she said, say Hi to

we can move her back among the living.
