Hi,
'52ers. It's 2008 and I am wondering where 2007 went! Isn't time supposed to
drag as we grow older? Ain't so!
Classmates
I heard from at Christmas '07 included Wally Field;
John Kerr, who thought our 55th was
the best ever; Mary Leidheiser, widow of
Ed Leidheiser, who sent a “celestial"
hi to
Ed;
Randy Zehner, who passed
along info on the Class of 1952 scholarship recipient (posted in a recent
column); and Paul Walton, here in
Tucson. Betsey and Mayo Snyder
sent their annual photo card. This one was a honey. The Snyders missed
our 55th, but plan to attend the 60th. Betsey's father and
Mayo's mother
both went to their 70th college reunions. Great genes, kids!
I also
heard from Bob Hoyt, who informed the class
that
Bill
Henderson passed
away in July 07. I remember
Bill
as a large football lineman and a sprinter on the swim team. He would come out
for swimming right after the last football game and, without pool
pre‑conditioning, would compete in the sprints‑and win. A good athlete and a
great guy.
Frank Sgambelluri
sent an e‑mail saying his wife, Barbara, has weathered a serious
operation and chemo and with her tough mental attitude is recovering nicely.
Great news, Barbara. Evelyn and Allen
Levan sent a card indicating that they are very active in their church
and volunteering at the local hospital. Mary Jo Johnston, widow of
Jim Johnston, wrote a beautiful letter
describing her activities of the last year, including her membership in Sealarks,
an association of women alone. Recently she went with this group to Boston;
Portland, Maine; St. John, N.B.; and Halifax, N.S. Thank you, Mary Jo,
for a wonderful letter.
My pen is
running dry, '52ers! I need your help to make this column interesting. You
want a column, but I can't fabricate interesting facts and information from the
ether. Write and tell me what you are up to. Others would like to hear
from you.
