As I am
writing this in mid‑March, the winter is long gone, the birds are chirping,
the sun is getting stronger, and spring has arrived in Tucson. Now let's
update the '52 news.
Our
hardworking Webmeister, Bill Erdman, sent in some wonderful news
from 2009: He and his
wife, Kay, traveled on a three‑month, 13,500‑mile odyssey in their Odyssey,
where they saw family; rode their bicycles 500 miles (wow, is that
impressive); slept overnight in a submarine in Muskegon, Mich., with two
grandkids; and took part in a hot air balloon rodeo in Steamboat Springs,
Colo., which included 38 balloons. Great stuff, you kids.
Webmaster note: Pat is a year behind! We did another
one this year.
Many
thanks to my Christmas card friends: Mary Jo Johnston (widow of
Jim), Mary‑Lou Leidheiser (widow of
Ed), and Betsey and
Mayo Snyder.
Tess and
Fred Kieshauer enjoyed the overtime Lehigh / Lafayette win.
Fred
reported
that he is playing a lot of golf; they haven't been traveling as much due to
Tess' open‑heart surgery.
Fred
sent news that Doc (Henry)
Adams and Bill
Barney have passed away.
An
updated medical report from Frank Sgambelluri has both he and wife
Barbara
on the mend. They both had medical challenges in recent years, but
Frank
says they are doing a lot better now. Keep plugging, kids. Our prayers are
with you.
John
Kerr sent a postcard lamenting the passing of
Bill Smith, our good friend
and fraternity brother. We both miss a truly remarkable team player and
gentleman.
On a
slightly more upbeat note, Homer "Frank" Frankhouser, of Houston, Texas, was
inducted into the Offshore Oil Hall of Fame.
Frank
has a long history of
offshore oil experience (North Sea and Irish Sea, and since 1992 has been
president of his own company).
Randy
Zelmer sent along news that our Class of 1952 Scholarship endowment market
value is in excess of $185,000. Contributions to our class fund are still
possible with definite tax advantages available, particularly in estate
matters. ‑thanks,
Randy, for the update.
Bob
Arndt e‑mailed an account of his career in the steel industry. In
retirement, Bob has concentrated on his love of choral music. At his church
in Wayne, Pa., he sings with the Peter Nero Festival Chorus Christmas Show,
and with the Berkshire Choral Festival in Sheffield, Mass.
Thanks,
classmates, for all the news and information. If anyone runs across my old
fraternity brother Jim Land, please tell him to "phone home!"
