Trusting God With Those We Love

Scripture: 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV) – “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

Message: Lent is a season that invites us to slow down, to release our need for control, and to place our deepest concerns back into God’s hands.  It is a time of honest reflection, surrender, and trust.  For me, these lessons are lived out most clearly in my calling as a grandmom.

Being a grandmom is one of God’s most unexpected gifts.  It comes with laughter, sticky fingers, and tender moments – but also with worry and heartache.  I look at my four grandchildren and see four very different stories unfolding, each one precious and unfinished.

One grandchild is learning perseverance through disappointment and unfair judgment.  Another stands on the edge of a new beginning, stepping into unfamiliar territory with both courage and fear.  Another teaches me daily how to slow down, listen more deeply, and trust God’s work even when progress looks different from what I expected.  And the youngest reminds me that hope is always being born again – that God is never finished creating new beginnings.

As a grandparent, my instinct is to fix what hurts, protect them from disappointment, and smooth the road ahead.  But Lent gently reminds me that this is not my work to do.  My work is to pray.  To trust that God sees what I cannot.  To believe that God loves these children even more than I do.

During this season, I am learning when to speak encouragement and when to stay quiet.  When to step in and when to step back.  Lent calls me to be a steady presence, a safe place, and a voice of reassurance.

And in the quiet of prayer, God reminds me: I am not called to control their story – I am called to cover it in prayer.  I am not just their grandmom.  I am their prayer warrior.

Prayer: Gracious God, during this Lenten season, help us release what we cannot control and trust You with those we love most.  Give us patient hearts, faithful prayers, and peace in knowing You are at work even when we cannot see it.  Teach us to rest in Your care and walk in quiet trust.  Amen.
