The Invitation

Scripture: Psalms 27:7-9 (NIV – Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me.  My heart says of you, “Seek his face!”  Your face, Lord, I will seek.  Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper.  Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior.

Message: David knows that he is not always faithful to God, yet he is eagerly seeking to be closer to God, always ready to accept God’s invitation and ready to ask for forgiveness.

Over the years I’ve received many invitations, especially during this past Christmas Season. I have a choice; I can reply or ignore the invitation.  As I’m maturing I can respond out of a pure heart, not out of obligation but out of delight.  There was a time when I would ignore invitations or make excuses why I can’t or say yes when my heart was saying no.

David saw God’s heart, a desire for an up close and personal relationship.  The desire of David’s heart was to please God, hence his words, “My heart says of you, Seek His face!  Your face, Lord, I will seek”.

When I’m with my grandkids, I bend down to be able to look at them face-to-face, to make eye contact, because I want them to feel my heart and I don’t want to be intimidating.

The face of God is who God is; His character, His nature, His love, His grace, His mercy which is new each day.  God desires my heart the center of who I am.  He desires to have a relationship with you too.  The invitation from the Lord is to come closer.  I want God to have a deeper understanding of me, and a deeper intimate relationship with me.  The only way to do that is to quiet ourselves and hear Him, to study Him through His Word and get to know Him.

Prayer: Forgiving Lord, we want a deeper understanding of You.  Quiet our noise and the noise around us so we can hear You speaking to us. Open our eyes so that we may see Your face and know You.  You are our hearts desire.  May our relationship with You continue to grow and flourish!  In the powerful name of Jesus.  Amen!
