Bud and Betsy @ 60th Reunion

Hi Bill, thanks for all you have done for our class!   Because of you, it has been great to be able to keep up with everyone.  I just read your update.. Sounds like you are doing well.  Amazing - so am I.  Hope we will have a 75th next year*.

Because we married late, we are blessed to have young grandchildren - 2 that are 15 , twins - 8 , and one 3 year-old.  Please give me a call.  Thanks, Bud Keen - August 2022.

Thanks Bud, you gave me an idea - I'm going to propose a Zoom meeting sometime in the near future and see if we can get a couple of us together without travelling.  See note on home page.

Note from Bud to Ray (deceased) and Nancy Mangold, April, 2020:  I think you will enjoy looking into info on this site.  Bill Erdman is the person who created the website and maintains it.  Sad news is that Bob Woeber past away last year (2018).  Bob was the main person who helped put together reunions etc.  Bill does not think there will be a 75th in 2023 unless someone steps up to do it.  You’ll see that you had updated your info in the past.  I’m sure Bill would enjoy hearing from you.  Best regards, Betsy and Bud - Note: Ray and I first met at Camp Kon-O-Kwee in 1941.  He and I took sax and clarinet lessons from the same teacher in Pgh.

Bud, I went to Kon-O-kwee as a counselor in 1948!

Bud, Virginia Beach, VA ponders life:  Hard to believe I'm still here with the big B'day this summer.  Any possibility of another reunion? - No.75? - April 2020.  Answer from Bill: You aren't alone, Buddy, everyone reading this are considered "Elderly".  Yes, we will have a reunion if you will organize it.

Hi Bill, I talked to Ray (deceased) and Nancy Mangold today.  He asked me to send the website to him.  They have been in the Philadelphia area for sometime.  Hope he will update his info to you.

Betsy and I are still in amazingly good health.  We would love to visit with anyone from our class if they are passing thru our area.  Glad you have decided to maintain the website.

Best regards, Bud Keen, January 2018

Bud wrote to Ray Mangold (deceased) about Bob Woeber (deceased):  Sorry to send this sad news.  Hope that someone will organize a 70th reunion.  Since Bob and I went to Julia Ward Howe elementary school, I have known him a long time.  Our family moved to MtL in 1939.  Got me into looking at old elementary school class pictures and some Junior High home room pictures.  Sure does bring back a lot of memories.  I assume that Bill Erdman will be maintaining the ’48 class website.  Best regards to you and Nancy.  Bud Keen - January 2018

My answer to Bud’s questions:  As far as the web site is concerned, I started it in 1996, 21 years ago, and don't plan to stop until I have to.  Bob fed me lots of stuff for the site so it was a good match - Bob collected, I posted.  I have addressed the future of the site and posted my plans for the web site on the linked page Future.   Bob's loss was a wakeup call for me to plan for the future demise of the site.   As WebMaster it's my job to take care of it.  Thanks for asking.  Bill <><

Most exciting news for us is that Betsy and I celebrated our 50th anniversary December 2017.  Both still in amazing good health.  Hope to attend our 70th MtL reunion in 2018 assuming there will be one.  Sadly we attended my brother Bill's memorial service in MtL in October.  Age 83.  Toured MtL with our daughters. - Received December 30, 2017 (Probably last update of 2017 - how time flies when you are getting older)

Jerry Goddard’s wife, Peg, called us yesterday to inform us that Jerry had passed away.  We visited them several years ago at their home near Boston.  At that time,  he had early stage dementia that probably progressed to Alzheimer’s.  Sorry to have sad news about Jerry who was a friend since 7th grade.  This year was their 64th anniversary.

Hope to see everyone at our 70th MtL Reunion.  This Dec. will be our 50thBud - October 2017

Bud, Virginia Beach, VA, writes:  I just looked at the website, and enjoyed reading the updated info.  We are both still in amazingly good condition and plan to attend the 70th reunion.  Our exciting news is that our oldest daughter, Liz, lives 10 minutes from us.  She had twins 2 1/2 years ago - a boy and a girl.  We see them a lot.  Their oldest daughter is 9.  Best regards to all, Bud Keen – August 2016

Hello,   I have switched my e-mail  address from bb23451@gmail.com to xxxxxxx@xxx*.com.  Please be sure to update your Address Book and use my new e-mail address from now on.   Thank You!   George "Bud" Keen   (Since this web site doesn’t publish e-mail addresses, you can get it by contacting me.) - Circa 2010.

July 2007:  Thanks to Ray Mangold (deceased) for advising you that Betsy and I plan to attend the 08 Reunion.  A repeat of the 50th would be great!!   What is possibility of combining with class of 49?  I have several good friends from that class.

Our big news is that our first grandchild, a boy, was born Apr. 7 to our west coast daughter.  Our east coast daughter is expecting in Sept.  Best regards, Bud

February 2005:  Exciting news for us.  Our oldest daughter is getting married this Spring.  Two more to go.  Best regards, Bud

July 2003:  At long last, I sent my biography to the website this A.M.  Hope that gets me off the bad guy list!

Are we going to have a golf outing at the reunion?  If yes, please send details to me .

Sorry to report that Ray Mangold (deceased) will not be able to attend.  He recently had both knees replaced.

Thanks to all who have put reunion together.  Looking forward to it!!!   Bud Keen - 757-428-6794

Paul Laderer & Elaine
Unknown date

Just a note to say that Elaine and I are still alive and kicking here in California, although we don't kick quite as high as we used to.  Can't believe we've been here for 44 years.  Both are in good health and able to get in some golf and tennis.  One of our granddaughters got married in Santa Barbara last month and another is in the hospital as I type this, expecting our 2nd great granddaughter.  So, life goes on!  Hope you both are well, and I thank and congratulate you on the wonderful job you have done over the years in keeping all of us in the class of '48 aware and up to date on the happenings of our friends.  Have a great Thanksgiving, a beautiful Christmas and a Happy and wonderful 2024!  Paul – November 2023

Hi Bill, just want you to know that I'm still with you and I'm happy to hear that there are still over 100 of us that are still hanging in there.  Elaine and I are still able to play some golf and tennis and get in some walking to stay loose.  Our travelling has been somewhat limited, but with great grandchildren finally starting to appear, we're happy to stay around here.  My major complaint today is that I'm unable to get into the website for our class.  When I tried, I got a message "HTTP Error 403.14 Forbidden" and then a possible cause, plus things I might try to get in.  Can't seem to make it work.  My daughter seems to think that others would be having the same problem.  Do you know if others are experiencing this?  And, what can I do to get the website back on my computer?  Our best to you and KayPaul Bill’s note: The best thing you can do is send me an email immediately and I’ll fix it.  If no one lets me know,  it may be down for weeks as I don’t look at the online web very often unless I hear from guys like you. – July 2023.

Paul is still active - he replied to my general email by saying, “Still alive, well and enjoying life in California.  Elaine and I have fortunately stayed relatively healthy, getting in some golf and tennis, and with the COVID situation subsiding, are travelling occasionally.  Heading for St Petersburg for a wedding in October and to visit my sister in Tequesta.  My last contact with a classmate was with Claire Hatch, but learned earlier this year that she passed away last December.  Birthday tomorrow, so daughters taking me to see the Pittsburgh Pirates play the S F Giants.  Best to all and stay well!” - August 2022.

Paul wants everyone to know he is alive and well in California.  From his Christmas card:  God has blessed us in so many, many ways over the years and 2010 has been no exception.  In January, our wedding anniversary number hit 50 (hoorah!) and in August, Paul's +Years on this earth reached 80 (gasp!).  To celebrate the two milestones, our daughters threw us a wonderful party for our family and friends in July.  It was beautiful, and we loved it.

The Paul Laderers - Christmas 2011The picture was taken at the party, and for those of you we haven't seen for a while, Cheryl, Ken and their three children are on the left; Donna, Bob and their three are on the right, and Karen, Brad and their two are in the middle, directly behind the elderly couple that were told to sit in the front.

For the most part, we've been in good health.  We both keep busy with family, church, volunteer, bridge, reading and exercise activities.  And, Elaine still likes her golf and Paul his tennis.  Our travels included cruising Hawaii in January, visiting Karen and family in Denver twice, Elaine went to San Antonio with High School friends in September, we spent several days with Cheryl and Ken in Newport Beach in October and had a short trip to Chicago for a funeral in November.

We hope you all have a grand and glorious Christmas and wish you the very best for 2011.  Peace and Love to all, Paul & Elaine - Christmas 2011

November 2015 - Talked to Susie this afternoon.  Ben is still doing well but he has the same problem I do - He can't hear so good.  She said they are both doing great considering his age.  All the kids and 7 grandchildren are "wonderful."

Ben - September 2008September 2008:  Kay and I visited Susie and Ben on September 2nd at their home.  Ben was doing well.  His home is the beautiful ex-administration office for the Health Care facility Ben and Susie ran for many years.  Then the state required more modern updates than Ben could provide so he closed it down and turned it into a lovely subdivision.

Their 5 kids all sound phenomenal and are spread as far away as Rio de Janeiro. - Bill

June 2008:  Bob spoke with Ben.  He and Susie have been at the same address for over 40 years.  He sounds rather different, but remembered me right away.  He said that he is housebound.  I asked him if there was any possibility that he could come and he said that he couldn't walk.

From 1958 Reunion Newsletter BEN MACDONALD, Children:  Amy Elizabeth 2 ½ months.  Ben Graduated from Harvard in’52.  Spent 4 years at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School.   Interned at St Like’s Hospital in Chicago.  Also interned in a small town outside of Boston.  Just about finished 1 year psychiatric residency at a VA Hospital in Palo Alto, CA.  Received his orders to report to San Diego Naval Base for a 2 year hitch.  1112 Bryant St, Apt #3, Palo Alto, CA.

Dear Bob, Thanks so much for letting me know about the 60th Reunion.  We can’t possibly be that old!  I do not know yet whether I will be able to attend.

To bring you up to date, my husband died suddenly twelve years ago while sitting in next to me in a movie theater.  In late January 2008 I decided it was time to move to a smaller place so I put my home of 38 years on the market .  Much to my amazement it sold quickly and I bought a condo one and a half miles from my daughter.

I have been blessed with good health and keep active walking, sports, traveling, etc.  I have seven grandchildren (6 boys, 1 girl) ranging in age from 23 to 4 and they are the love of my life.

It has been great to read about the members of our class on the website.  Marilyn – July 2008

Seven years later, Roy wrote:  This is Roy McEwen, alive and kicking although not as hard any more.  I thought the site got closed out a couple of years ago.  My nephew Bob McEwen found it and gave me the link.  I don't get around much anymore.  My right hip acts up on occasion as does my left knee.  A cane is a necessity and stairs a challenge.   I've  had it a lot easier since my daughter Carol and son-in-law Edmundo are here.  It only took them 5 years to weather the immigration forest.  Church is the only activity I don't want to give up.  Gabriela (granddaughter) heads to Montreal in January to begin work on her PhD.  Daniel is changing course, he now wants to be a chef.  He is a pretty good cook.  My oldest, Anna has settled down near Strasburg, France.  She and Vincent have completely refurbished their home.  She's a medical technologist and Vincent is both a home rebuilder and a guard in the local court.  I'd like to hear from you  any of the remaining classmates!  - December 2023.  PS: I was happy to move Roy from the "Lost" list to the "Active" list.

Roy writes from Lexington, SC:  Since I lost Carole 3 years ago, I have relocated to Lexington.  This the best school district in the area.  My daughter and family are planning to come live with me.  Edmondo, Gabriela a senior in high school and Daniel is in the 9th grade.  They live in French Guyana.  Edmundo has applied for a visa and green card so he can come here legally.

I keep active in church, the Masonic lodge, and I'm building a garden railroad in the back yard.  The Good Lord willing I will be at the 70th reunion, whenever it may be. – January 2017

Hello all.  I had to miss the last reunion because of my wife's illness.  She had been diagnosed with lung cancer in February and was undergoing chemo through the summer and by September the cancer had spread .  She died October 20 just one week before our 18th anniversary.  I didn't make a very good nurse but Hospice was fantastic.  Since we both had our properties in  living trusts, probate was not necessary and everything was settled by New Years.

I decided to sell our home as it was too big for me to rattle around in.  I bought a new place and by December of '14 I had moved into 560 Blue Ledge Cir., Lexington, SC  29072.  My daughter and family are planning to come live with me so the grands can graduate from a stateside high school.  I am eagerly awaiting their arrival.  The paper work has been progress for over a year and a half and still far from being completed.  Edmundo is a French citizen so there shouldn't be any hang up.  Just the normal delays.

Some of you may have heard about the flood in SC.  Columbia in particular.  I was not affected directly.  One watershed was very hard hit.  It was where I used to live although my house was on higher ground.  This was land that had been developed right after WWII.  It was between Columbia and Fort Jackson.  There were four man made dams one after the other with very beautiful lakes with beautiful homes on the shore lines and environs.  We had around 18" of rain in less than 24 hours.  The dams were overstressed and one by one broke.   Down stream there is a natural bottleneck and the water got over 20' deep. I went through the area a couple of weeks later and noticed that two buildings were gone.  There were several cars sitting in very unusual places deposited there by the rushing waters.  Damage estimates are well into 7 digits. I know two families that lost everything.

The good Lord willing and if the creek doesn''t rise I'll be in Pgh in 2018.  Roy, November 2015

My reunion status is now questionable.   Carole has lung cancer and is undergoing chemo.  It scheduled for completion by Aug 1 but there's no telling now as to how she will feel then and whether we can make the trip.  I'm finding that the older I get the more I have to remember and the less I do remember.  Where is a good place to stay now?  ROY - May 2013

November 2011 - Glad to hear from you.  I’m just getting a little older not wiser but maybe a little slower.   I had forgotten how to access our MtL web site.   I’m waiting  patiently for our next reunion.  Roy

April 2011- Hi Bob.  How do you report news when not much is  happening?   My eye problems have been repaired and I can see well again.  Detached retina and cataract ops are history.  Depth perception is lagging and not 100% but close.   I'm planning to go to Boone NC next June as I have done for the last four years.   We work with homeworks org to repair homes of the elderly and needy.   Teens from our local churches do the work but the adults do the planning and supervise.   We  stay at an old monastery at Valle Crusis and use it as our base.  There were 44 people in our group  last year.   And we worked on 9 homes.  See you in 13.   Roy McEwen

February 2007 - Several updates:

Bob Alderdice (deceased):  I ran into him at Western Electric Cafeteria in New York City in early 1965.  He was a lawyer and had been a partner in a Cleveland firm but had to give it up because of too much stress.  He had taken a job with ATT in the legal dept.  He was handling easements and rights of way in the city.  We met several times over the next few months.  When I hadn't heard from him for several weeks, I called his office and got the news that he had died.  Whoever I talked to didn't know anything about him or wouldn't give me any more info.

John Millington (deceased):  He was best man at my wedding in June 1954 at Arlington VA.  He joined the army shortly after graduation and was a radio operator.  He spent a lot of time at Ft Knox and then in the Pacific.   Returning he went to Pitt and got a degree in Transportation.  He lived in Fairfax, VA. for several years.  We exchanged Christmas cards and one year mine was returned as "unknown"  I believe his brother Andy still lives in Mt L on Ashland Ave.-or used to.

I'm looking forward to 2008.   ROY

June 2006 - Just a note to let you know I'm still kicking.  Last Mar I spent a week working for HomeWorks in Covington La   HomeWorks is a charitable org that repairs homes of the elderly with limited resources.  Katrina had done a job on this town too.  In early June we went to Boone NC area also.  We had a lot of teenagers doing the work but they needed instruction and supervision.  We had a lot of fun.
ROY McEWEN

December 2005 - A Merry Christmas to you and yours.   There isn't much of anything new with me.  Getting ready for Christmas and trying to keep warm.   We've been to Myrtle Beach several times in the last two weeks getting our Condo ready for the next years rentals.  Some of my cousins are thinking of meeting in Pgh next summer.  We've been actively building a family tree.   We've gotten back to 1730.   So far we have over 900 names in ten generations.  The eleventh generations will soon be here.   Not my family though.  My grandchildren are 16, 6 and 3 and they live in French Guiana South America.   I haven't visited them for four years so maybe next spring.   It's over 3000 mi and takes two days.  It can be quite an ordeal.  Air France folks won't admit to knowing any English and its not easy to communicate.   ROY

Just to clarify one point!  The French pretend they don't know English just to show up the Americans.  They know exactly what you are saying.   As you know the French are the superior to every one else.   ROY.

December 2004:  Columbia SC  It felt cold too.  ROY

(In response to my global e-mail asking, "Is anyone was out there?")

February 2003:  I have gotten interested in Genealogy of the McEwen clan and have located several others doing the same.  Together they have over 10,000 records.  Do I have fun going thru that!  I have over 500 in my direct line to the first McEwen to come to these shores in 1745.   But I ramble.   Roy

We've been traveling a lot lately. Got back from Europe the 29th of June and went to Nashville on the 3rd of July, 2001.

We attended the International Supreme Assembly of the Order of the Amaranth. This is a Masonic organization which is social fraternal and charitable for Masons and their female relatives. We had a lot of fun meeting old friends and talking over old times.

I retired from AT&T, now Lucent Technologies, in 1986 after 31 years.  I spent most if my time in accounting and was a Certified Internal Auditor.

My first wife died 5 years ago after 39 years.  We were living in Tallahassee at the time.  I have since remarried and am now living in Columbia, SC, with Carole, my wife for 2.5 years.

I am so sorry that you haven't heard from me for quite a while.  2015 has been a hectic year, as my husband, Bob was either in the hospital or rehab most of the year.  Things are better now so we are upbeat  for the future.

December 2006  (From Hudson Monthly) -

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?  Obviously to Belgium.  I would like to go back for one more visit.

Where is the best place to clear your head?  Singing Sunday morning in the church choir (at the First Congregational Church.) It is inspirational and calming.

What is one thing people don't know about you?  I'm a Steelers fan.

Who was your favorite teacher?  Dr. Nelson Mills, my journalism and drama coach at Mt. Lebanon High School.

What is the last movie you saw?  With the move, we haven't seen a movie in six months. There have been several we wanted to see.

What is the last book you read?  I’m in the midst of reading “For One More Day,” by Mitch Albom.

Catching up with … Marty Hills

Marty Hills loves Hudson.

That fact is evident the minute a visitor walks into the Hudson Commons Drive condo she shares with her husband Bob.

Paintings and mementos of the town fill the walls.

"We just moved in a month ago," she says.

While the condo is new to them, the Hills actually have called Hudson home for 44 years, the same amount of time they have been married.

It's a second marriage for both; Marty had been living in Silver Lake with her two sons and daughter, and Bob was living in Akron with his three sons when they met.

"I was in a theater production in Silver Lake," she says . "A friend brought him to the cast party and we met there."

Marty says that after they married, they wanted to find a community where they could raise their family.

"We just love it," Marty says of Hudson.

The Hills embraced the town.

Marty served on the Hudson School Board and was able to give her daughter her diploma at graduation.

She also represented Ward I on City Council for three years and in 2005 she was chosen as the Chamber of Commerce's Citizen of the Year.

Marty admits the city has changed over the years.

"When we walked down Main Street, we used to know everyone," she says. "I don't know everyone now.  There were 5,000 residents when we moved here.  Today there are 23,500."

One of Marty’s favorite projects is her work with the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation.

She said she read about the foundation in 1995 in a newspaper or magazine article.

"My parents always taught me that's the way to do it," she says.  "I called the foundation and said 'we have a wonderful town."'

She has chaired the Random Acts of Kindness week in Hudson ever since.

"I hear about random acts of kindness throughout the year," she says.  "People will call and say, 'I had to call and let you know I did a random act of kindness or someone did one for me.  It feels so good."'

Hills herself was the recipient of a random act of kindness.  That act has been included in a book, "Christian Acts of Kindness," published by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation.

According to the book, Hills' brother was a P-47 pilot in World War II.  He was shot down over Germany in 1945 and it was four years before her family found him.

Her brother's grave was found in 1949.

"In an unbelievable act of kindness (in wartime no less), someone had buried him with his ID tags," she writes in the book.

Hills' family buried him in the American Military Cemetery near Liege, Belgium, with more than 5,000 other American servicemen.

Hills, who had visited the site several times, traveled there with her husband for a 50th anniversary service at the cemetery.

While she was at her brother's grave, a Belgian woman came up and thanked her for the sacrifice her family made for the woman's country.  The woman then said she belonged to a group of Belgian citizens who come to the cemetery once a month to offer prayers and asked to adopt Hills' brother.  She said she would come monthly to pray for him and Hills.

While Hills said she never found out the woman's name, she will never forget her.

Former Council member named Chamber's Citizen of the Year
by Ronnica Dull, Reporter

HUDSON - One of the many organizations Martha "Marty" Hills volunteers for is the Random Acts of Kindness Committee.

So it's fitting that Hills, 74, was told on Valentine's Day - the first day in a weeklong celebration of Random Acts of Kindness - she was chosen as the Chamber of Commerce's 2005 Citizen of the Year winner.

"I'm overwhelmed, honored and humbled to be receiving this award," she said. " There are so many well-deserving citizens in the city who could have won this award."

The Chamber will present Hills with the award March 3 at Waters Restaurant

Carolyn Konefal, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, said Hills received three separate nominations - a lot for one person.

"This is a long overdue acknowledgement of her services and dedication to the community," Konefal said.

Sharon Lowe-Blackford of Cuyahoga Falls, retired supervisor of Hudson schools' buildings and grounds department and a member of the Hudson Rotary Club, was one of three people to nominate Hills for the award.

"She is a brilliant and kind .individual and a very classy lady," Lowe-Blackford said, adding that she has always admired Hills for her extensive involvement in activities around Hudson.

Hudsonite Paul Bodden also nominated Hills.  "She exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism which pervades our community and is one of its notable strengths," Bodden said.  "Most notably, she has been unafraid to engage openly in public discussion and to run for public office in contested elections.  She puts herself on the line, stands up in the open and is heard."

Hills, a 42-year Hudson resident, said she learned to value community involvement from her parents, Edythe and Walter McVay of Mount Lebanon, Pa.

I have always followed my father's advice, which is, "We were not put on this earth to occupy space, but to leave it a better place for having been here," Hills said.  "It was his badge of honor and he wanted me to make it come true."

Not only is Hills involved with the Random Acts of Kindness committee, she also is a founding member of Hudson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; Hills' ancestors date back to pre-Revolutionary War.

She is a member of the Akron Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonist and a member of the National Huguenots Society.

A member of the First Congregational Church since 1963, Hills has been singing in its choir since 1968.  She also was the church moderator for one term and as a minister in the Stephen Ministry program, which provides a listening ear to parishioners during difficult times.

She has been a member of the David Hudson Chapter of Questers since 1974.

Since 1987, she also has been a member of the national Sisterhood P.E.O., which promotes educational opportunities for women.

Hills was a teacher's aide at Evamere Elementary School from 1967 to 1974.   From 1974 to 1981, she served as a member of the School Board.  She was president of the School Board from 1980 to 1981.  She also was a member of the Hudson Schools' Endowment 11 Board from 1991 to 2000.

From 1991 to 1994, Hills was on the city of Hudson's Merger Commission.

Hills also was co-chair of the 1999 Hudson Bicentennial Committee and a member of the Hudson Chapter of the U.S. Bicentennial Celebration in 1976.

From 2000 to 2003, Hills was a member of City council.  She is currently serving on the city's Charter Review Commission.

Hills and her husband, Bob, have lived in Hudson for 42 years and have six children.

The Chamber's Citizen of the Year honor is awarded to someone who performs a service or an act for the community above and beyond daily activities to make Hudson a better place to live, Konefal said.

March 2003:  Bob & I will be at the reunion!  I am looking forward to seeing everyone again.  This has been (and will be) a busy and exciting year for us, as I am serving on Hudson, Ohio, City Council;  Bob is active in Rotary; and we have a son, grandson, and godson all being married this summer!  See you in August!   Marty

Joe today (2001)

Joe, you sent me an email complaining that I hadn't replied to your cryptic note.   I did reply but probably didn't remember to send it or filed it.  Trying to remember what you said and what I said I realized that dementia is a sneaky menace.  My wife Kay is suffering with event-related dementia and I am her caregiver.  What happens when the caregiver starts getting loopy?  Easy answer:  He remembers an old song and starts singing; Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy?  One stanza is:

Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy.
Giddy and foolish the whole day through
Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy.

Way down South where the bananas grow
a flea stepped on an elephant's toe.
the elephant cried, with tears in his eyes,
"Why don't you pick on someone your own size?"

I think, in my case, that 93 ½ is the knee in my dementia curve.  It is all downhill from now on!  Bill <>< - March 2024

He did it, Joe did it except the few days turned into 3 months!  Hi Bill, I have developed a working investment program that is performing at a solid, steady, greater than 25% annual return.  I hope to have a fund established and available for family and friends within  a year.  Stay tuned.  We that are still living are in our last decade so I had better keep my butt moving on this one.  With my kids in charge, the fund will live on for family and friends.

I've been married for 63 happy years to wife Pat.  Health is good, no complaints.  Class of '48 has been really lucky and blessed by your website.  Good job & many thanks.  Cheers & peace, Joe Miller, The Magnificent.  October 2023.

Promises, promises.  Joe emailed me and said:  “A longer response will be forthcoming within a few days.  Applause to Kay for hanging-in with you all these years.  I am worried because I have received no response to an email I recently sent to Carol Davis.  She, Art Mensing (deceased) and I were close friends.  Cheers and peace to all."  July 29, 2023

Joe Miller is still active - he replied to my general email by saying, “joe miller checking in.  great idea a zoom meeting.” - August 2022

First news of 2022 came from Joe: "It is cold in North Dakota!" - January 2022

Joe Miller, Annapolis, writes:  Hi Bill, damn, I was unaware you are still maintaining the website, let alone in such a splendid and detailed way.  I’m still fakin’ ‘em out… good health & luck, etc to all of us still breathing who had the wisdom to pick parents with good genes.  Cheers & peace, Joe miller   March 2021.

Question:  Does the website have a feature whereby any one of us can contact any other of us via phone and or email?  Answer:  No, except for the phone numbers listed with many bios (Most are probably obsolete but worth trying).  I don’t list e-mails to keep them from the public domain but will share a person’s address with you at you request - You request, I email the person, he / she has the option to reply to you directly.  I do this so web crawlers don’t mine the web site for live emails.

Mild-mannered, Joe, Annapolis, MD, wrote:  DAMN Bill!!! this website is one heck of a piece of software, thanks a bunch for the years of pleasure you and it have given me.  I and my family are doing great.  Doctors marvel at me.  (We all have always marveled at you, Joe) Occasionally I carry a cane for balance assist when circumstances suggest it's a good idea to do so.  My standard comment is "it's easy... we old farts are geezers because we picked our parents wisely". - April 2020

Addendum:  Truth be told, I didn't graduate from MtL.  In January 1948, because of family circumstances, I quite unexpectedly had to go to live with my uncle in Gainesville, FL.

Regarding ''122 Known left in class, 261 Deceased / Lost'':  32% of us still on this side of the grass at age 90 is significantly  more than i would have guessed.  Cheers & Peace, Joe

Joe, Annapolis, MD, writes:  For your Information: I’m still vertical and in good health.  Thanks for the website - it has been great and I hope a labor of love for you.  I might even pick up the baton to help have another reunion [believe that one when you see it].  I may have the time to do so next year.  A project my daughter and I have been working on for a few years is about to come to completion.  - Joe, October 2018

Joe, Annapolis, MD, writes:  Pat [wife] & I blessed with good health and good life.  Started an 'incubator' hedge fund last year ..It's fun, makes life interesting and will be a good legacy if it doesn't crash & burn.  I will absolutely, positively, attend 2018 reunion. cheers & peace.  – February 2016

Bob, In reply to your May 9 letter, my email address has changed.  Phone is 410 990 0823.  Good to hear from you, and thanks for yours and Bill’s website efforts.  Not many, if any, other high school classes are so lucky.  Joe – June 14, 2009

Thanks for all your efforts Bill.  Have been in Spain for a few months.  Wish I could be at the reunion.  I might even have made it this time if I were closer.  Joe Miller – August 2008

February 2008:  Still working on financial ventures.  I am about to set up an "incubator" account with an organization which will monitor it and present it to the world if results are good.   My track record is good so far, but they need to have tight control on what I am doing.   For instance one trick is to establish several accounts, using a different strategy in each, and then presenting the best performer as a track record.  It is as much a hobby as a serious effort.

I am really going to try to make it to the August '08 reunion, even though I never really knew any of the 30 or so "definites".  I do remember all of them well though.  I probably won't, of course, but I may just show up at the reunion - I really want to.  -  Joe

September 2005 - Hi Bill,  In reply to your "recent" (December, 2004) email in which you asked "how goes the battle" - As the smoke clears I'm still standing and in good health.  Life don't get much better than that.

My investment program is a lot of fun and keeps me very busy.  So far it has performed well.  The fund is currently 'for family and friends' and is limited by law to the 15 current accounts.  I plan to establish a public hedge fund within a year or two.  I am teaching the kids how to operate it in case I buy the farm first and they want to continue with it.  I am trading only in the Eurodollar / U.S. dollar currency pair - because of it's super high volume and therefore good trade executions.  Sounds risky but it can be done conservatively by using very little of the available leverage - meaning only a small percentage of the capital is invested.

Spoke with Art Mensing (deceased) a few months ago.  He said Bill (Henry) Kurtz  (deceased) said Bob Hoga,  a good friend in junior and senior high school had recently died in Florida.   Joe Miller

Also in September -  I am forwarding an email received from my brother in Lakeland, Fla.  Kaufmann's clock and building haven't changed in 65-plus, years.   Speaking of nostalgia - I just scrolled thru the "Gone but" page.   My reaction was similar to yours.   A very heavy bitter-sweet emotional experience.   Thanks again for the web page.   Joe

May 2003:  We expect to be in Spain in August.  If so I will not be at the reunion.

I decided to apply the strategy which was to be used in my proposed website to the development of an investment fund.  Tested the results using historical data and am now engaged in a real investment test.  The profits so far have been encouraging - especially coupled with consistency of performance (ie) relatively small drawdowns.  Will continue the testing for the rest of the year while my daughters establish the fund with the SEC and market it.

I will stay in touch to let you know how the fund is doing.  -  Joe

E-mail, August 2001:  Nothing exciting to report since last year - but that’s probably good new.  More good news is that there is no bad news in our lives.  A slow paced life style with visits back and forth with kids, other relatives and friends - and an occasional short vacation.

In May I collided with my 70th birthday so finally went on Social Security.  God bless the New Deal.

Just finished a three month contract programming job at the IRS.  They are still in the Dark Ages with IBM mainframes.  That may be my last job.

Pat & I continue to exercise regularly.  I jog three or four miles every other day.  It works wonders I think.  I always wonder, though, if it would be healthier to do no exercise.  Wouldn’t it be ironic if I got hit by a car trying to stay healthy while my couch-potato friends are safely opening another beer?

We are still working on our mom & pop website.  I am also researching some stock option investment schemes which will mesh with our ‘option fair-price’ website.  I enjoy the computer work plus it is compatible with the ‘risk-taker’ personality trait which I have occasionally been accused of having.

Love the memories of you all.  Joe Miller

Some random, vivid, pleasant memories about MtL people (after 1948)
------------------------------------------------------------

Late at night I heard a radio station announcer say "this is Ralph Wiethorn ........." (deceased)

John McCune (deceased), with his sister and Donna Kae Simmonds in his car, saw me walking on Washington Road.  He doubled back and drove me home while we talked.

I met Beverly Beck  (deceased)at Pitt and we dated a few times.  Was great to see her.  We had gone together to afternoon and evening dances in the 7th and 8th grades.

Met my 8th grade science teacher, Mr. Raines, on a Dormont sidewalk.

Talked with Martha Allison on a Mt. Lebanon bus.  Saw several MtL people at Tech but names escape me.  Bob Hogan (deceased) and I visited Art Mensing (deceased) in Hartford, Conn.  Unexpectedly met John Humphreys on a bus going to New York City.  Sat and talked with him all the way.  Briefly talked with Brad Estep (deceased) when we unexpectedly met one day.

More random stuff

I still perceive myself to be young, 20 or 30 maybe.
I still think of our kids as kids, and still call them ‘kid’ (eg) when they phone I automatically say ‘Hi Kid’.
I have been blessed with really good health and a terrific family.
How did year 2000 come so quickly?
How did the kids grow up so quickly?
Why do I get tears in my eyes when I read this?

Joe's Biography - July 2000

Written under duress.  Bill did a bait-and-gotcha on me.  He offered the use of his website for some testing I want to do but then said "but not until I get a bio."  The man has no shame.

Post 1948:  Bounced around for 3 years after high school.  My brother and I worked with a combine wheat harvesting crew from Kansas to North Dakota in 1949.  Then picked fruit in California’s San Joaquin valley.  Learned to shoe horses in Seattle working for 2 years with my uncle’s rodeo rider / horse-shoer boyhood friend from Montana.  That served me well when in school.  I was able to earn $200 on weekends when necessary.  Big time money in the early 50’s.  The work is still lucrative.  I considered making a career of it but thoughts of hard labor put that to rest.

Returned to Pittsburgh in 1951 and started at Carnegie Tech the same week I was drafted.  Was sworn in but luckily a scholastic deferment kicked in.  Otherwise I might still be in Korea pushing up plants in a rice paddy.

Decided after 3 years at Tech that I really wanted to be a Petroleum Engineer (closely related to mining engineering).  Switched to Pitt to get that degree.  Worked in the oil fields in California and west Texas for two summers during school.  When I graduated I decided that, after all, I did not want to spend the rest of my life in some of God’s most forsaken places.  So I switched again (I am very flexible) and went to the aerospace industry in California.  There I got an MS in Mechanical Engineering from USC by the skin of my teeth.  Had the good life living on the beach in Playa Del Rey and Malibu.

Met my wife, Pat, in 1960 on Catalina Island while sitting beside her at a picnic table.  Stole food from her plate, she caught me, and the rest is history.  We were married 3 months later.

We came to Silver Springs, MD, in 1971 with 3 little girls and have been in the same house almost 30 years.  Worked at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center for 8 years.  Then went on an independent contracting / consulting job supposedly for a few months but have been contracting ever since.

Our 3 kids are now in Annapolis, Albany and Boston.  Married, married and almost married.  Computer Scientist, Chemical Engineer and Nurse.  4 grandchildren.

Initiated Social Security payments in May after turning 69 so guess I am retired.  Mostly for fun Pat and I are currently developing a website.  It will present daily estimated put and call option ‘fair prices’ for 10,000 stocks.

60th Reunion

Adele and Joan OHanlon Rice at 65th Reunion

While trying to set up the October 2022 Zoom meeting, Adele's email bounced.  She either no longer uses that particular email or worst-case-scenario, she is deceased.   If I don't hear from her by January, 2023, I will reluctantly move her to the deceased list - October 2022.

Reference the 65th Reunion:  I'll be there, too, I hope!  Adele – June 2013

June 2008:  Well, I don't have any pictures and don't know how to send them, so I'll just give you information.  I graduated from PCW (now Chatham University) with a major in French in 1952, and went to work for NSA in Washington D.C.  I married Bela Karlovitz (deceased) in 1953 while he was attending Georgetown Law School.  He was drafted into the army and sent to Frankfurt, Germany.  I had my oldest daughter, Katie, while he was there, and joined him five months later.  We moved to Heidelberg and my son, Mark, was born there in a former German army barracks turned U.S. Army hospital.  After arriving back in Pittsburgh, Bela practiced law and I had babies.

We were divorced in 1989, and I graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in 1989.  I worked at Shadyside Hospital for two years, then became a traveling nurse and finally settled permanently in Vero Beach, where I worked at the local hospital till 1970!

I'll see if I can scrounge up some pics.  Adele

June 2008:  Talked with Adele on the phone.  She sounds super - a woman after our own hearts.  She likes to camp, ride bikes, travel & has loads of grandchildren.  Hope she stops by in Orlando to see Kay and me.  She promised to send much more news.  Bill <><

September 2012 - Kathy plans on coming to the 65th reunion.

June 2008:  Kathleen writes:  I have a lovely daughter, Colleen who has two married children John and Kara, and three great grandsons with another great grandchild on the way.

After moving from Pittsburgh to Ohio in 1994, I returned to college and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.  I worked as a Social Worker at the Akron Children’s Services Board in Family Counseling for many years before retiring in 1994.  After retiring, my husband John and I bought a condo in Margate, Florida, where we enjoyed many winters until his death in 2004.  After that, I decided to sell the property and now visit my daughter and husband in Vero Beach, Florida, where they spend the winters in their home.

I have been blessed with good health and family and am currently involved in church activities and love it. I am looking forward to attending our 60th class reunion and renewing old friendships.

Thanks to all of the staff who have worked so hard in keeping up with this website.  I have enjoyed many hour’s reading updates on our classmates.

June 2008:  Kathy Mullen Kirby had married Bob Griffith, brother of Jim Griffith (deceased).   He was killed in an auto accident shortly after they were married.   She later married John Kirby who has since died.  She lives in Copley Ohio, about 2 hours from Pittsburgh. - Tom (deceased)

Hi Bill– I’m still alive  but I don't do much kicking anymore.  I had a great vacation with my family this summer.  We went on an American Cruise line trip around Cape Cod for a week.  The ship was brand new and only 100 passengers so it was quite lovely.  I had never been there so enjoyed seeing all the different places.  We were at Martha's Vineyard, Newport, Hyannis, Provincetown and Plymouth to name a few.  There were 12 of us - 6 of my kids and 5 spouses and we all got along together and did a lot of laughing!

I'm in touch with Anne Mosites Miller, Suzanne Divine Williams and Peggy Crissman Funkhouser's daughter but no one else except you.  We're dropping like flies now - I feel lucky to have my health and my mind.  Happy Thanksgiving and early Merry Christmas!  Mary – November 2023

Hi Bill, always good to hear from you.  I didn't realize we still had so many classmates still alive!  I guess 1930 was a good year to start!  I have been slowing down some but still doing some traveling occasionally.  I have a trip planned with a good part of my family for the end of August.  We are going on another cruise with American Cruise lines that we went with to Alaska in 2019.  This tine we're cruising around Cape Cod - a week on the new cruise ship American Eagle.  Before that, this fall, I will attend a couple of showers - one baby shower to celebrate my 11th great grandchild - a boy due in October, and a wedding shower in September to celebrate my grandson's wedding next February.  I spend a lot of time sitting on my porch with a book listening to a waterfall in my garden - so peaceful.  Health is good!  Bob's been gone almost 8 years now and I still miss him!  Mary – July, 2023

Mary is still active- she replied to my general email by saying, “HI Bill - Still alive and kicking!  Had COVID 2x but better now.  Mary” - August 2022

Mary, always faithful writes:  Hi Bill - just saw the reminder online for we '48ers.  Not much new here - staying home and letting kids shop for me.  Haven't seen the inside of a store in a month!  Last summer in July 15 of us - me, 7 kids and spouses went to Alaska for a wonderful week on a river cruise.  We had a super time with unusually warm weather - 85 degrees in Juneau the day we were there.  We were on the American Cruise Line and it was truly a great ship.  There were only 150 of us totally and it made for a trip where everyone got to know each other.  I highly recommend them for cruising in the states.  We have another one planned for June of 2021 going to cruise along the Columbia River in Oregon - same group.

I have been south a few times to my condo at Lake Keowee in South Carolina and was planning on going again but had to put it on hold because of the virus.  Supposed to go to Jamaica in November for my grandson's wedding - we'll see.  I haven't seen anyone from the class for ages except Buddy Stevenson about 6 months ago (He looked terrible!).

I keep in touch with Anne Mosites and Suzanne Divine, but not in person.  Hope you're well and staying home.  Mary - April 2020

Hi Bill, sorry to report that Bob Nungesser died last Friday (March 24).  He had not been sick, but had sold his house and moved to assisted living 3 months ago.  His daughter told me that she was going to take him grocery shopping last Friday and before she could get to pick him up, the assisted living place called her that he had died.  They found him on the floor near his bed and it seemed that he had hit his head on a dresser, but they didn't know for sure.  I had not seen him since Bob Woeber's funeral over a year ago.  Seems like that's where we see anyone from our class any more.

I have been pretty good - had a knee replacement in February, and am going for my last physical therapy today but am walking fine without walker or cane, so I don't need PT any more.  I'm going to Alaska on the 2nd of July with my seven kids and their spouses - 15 of us on a river cruise out of Juneau.  We've been planning it for a year and now counting down the days!  I had to get the knee done so I can do the walking that trip requires, and with a month to go, I'm ready!

Saw Anne Mosites at the funeral home last night and she looks good.  Ran into Bud Stevenson about a month ago at a restaurant and we talked about reunions, and decided that we're through with those - no one wants to take on the planning.

That's about all for now - hope you and Kay are good.  Fondly, Mary

Mary writes from South Carolina:  Hi Bill and thanks for the news.  Unfortunately that kind of news is more than normal at our age.  Thank you for your kind words about our younger years - Once I started to date Bob there was never anyone else for me.  We had 62 wonderful years together.

I bought a condo on Lake Keowee in South Carolina.  If you’ve never heard of Keowee google it - gorgeous lake in western SC.  My one daughter and husband live across the lake from me.  My oldest son just bought a condo like mine just around the corner so we can have bedrooms for all my gang.  My gang is 7 kids with spouses, 17 grandkids some with spouses and 6 great grandkids.  We are a fun busy group when we are all together.  Not very often now that grandkids are growing up and scattered all over the country.

I hear from Marty McVay Hills occasionally.  She was wondering about a reunion but I told her it was doubtful - no one to plan it.  Too much work at our age.  Let’s keep in touch.  Mary, October 2018.

Mary writes after Kay & I invite her down to Florida for a respite from cold weather:  I have a daughter who has a condo in New Smyrna Beach.  I also have a grandson at UCF.  It is tempting - I'll wait till I get real cold! - November 2017

Mary writes:  Bob and I celebrated our 60th anniversary February 3rd!  We are expecting 2 babies next August - one new grandchild (big surprise cause the parents are 40 and 39), and one new great-grandchild!  Both within 10 days of one another.  We already have 16 grandchildren and 1 great grandson, but we're ready for more - who knew that we'd have so many when I was an only child and Bob one of three!  That's about all for now. See you all at reunion!   Mary – February 2013

Had a scare with my right knee over the weekend - was just walking on my sidewalk and stooped over to pick up something and heard a POP in the back of the knee and could not take another step.   Severe pain and had to hop with a walker to get back in the house.   Long story short - saw an orthopedic Dr. today and it's not as bad as I thought.   I thought I had a torn meniscus, but he says no - just strained it.   Also it was very swollen and he drained fluid out of it then gave me a cortisone shot and it's feeling better.

Bob and I went to his 65th last weekend and WOW - those people are really OLD!*   Didn't recognize only 1 or 2  of the women and only 2 or 3 of the men!   Still we had a good time.   I think 65 reunions is enough!  MarySeptember 2012

*WebMaster's note:  Mary that is the funniest comment I've heard from a Classmate in ages.  I needed that.  I don't consider myself old yet.  I'm close but still vertical. - Bill <><

From Bob Woeber's (deceased) October e-pistol:  P.S. We see Anne Mosites Miller and Mary Murrie Hardy occasionally.   They both look wonderful and seem to be active and happy.    We see Skip Richardson a lot.   He has some physical issues, but is always upbeat and pretty active.  He's a wonderful guy and a great friend.  2011

Hi Bill - Someone on FaceBook reminded me that your birthday was close, I can't take credit for remembering.   Hope you have a great day.   My kids / grandkids and friends surprised me on my birthday with a cruise on the 3 rivers of Pittsburgh.   All my family was there (34 of us at this count) and 6 friends and we had a wonderful 3 hour cruise on the rivers.   It was a beautiful evening, and we all had a wonderful time.   The next day the festivities continued with dinner at one grandson's house, and then another dinner the next night at one daughter's house.   We don't all get together very often, so it is really special when they are all together.   One family came from Florida, and another from Atlanta, and one from Carlisle, Pa. plus the ones who are here, and they all were in on the surprise - actually no one leaked anything.   They planned it all via emails which I was not included in.

But enough about me - Bob has been laid up with pneumonia this past week - spent 3 days in the hospital, but is recovering well now.   He was so glad to get home and be in his own bed, and having me cook.   Other than that, we are pretty good  health wise.

I haven't seen very many from class of 48 except Ann Bowman McClymonds who stopped in one day for lunch and a visit on her way to Albion, Pa.   She is amazing - drives all over the country visiting her family & friends.   Of course, we were at Buddy's 80th party and saw quite a few there.   I see Anne Mosites Miller occasionally.   She looks wonderful.   Bob Woeber (deceased) and Margy seem to eat at our favorite restaurant the same days we do, so we hear that there might be another reunion planned for 2013.   Might as well keep them going.

Keep in touch.     Mary – September 2010

Mary & Bob - 2011
Mary
and Bob - 2009

Hi Bill - I did not realize that my last news was from 2005.   The time goes fast when you're having fun.   There is really not much news to get excited about.   We still spend about 3 months in Savannah, Ga. in the winter, and then back here in Pittsburgh the rest of the time.   We haven't been on any great trips for awhile - the last one was in 2006 when we visited Nova Scotia and the Canadian provinces.   That was a great trip!

We went to Florida for a few days last winter to visit son#1 who had moved from Kentucky to Bradenton, Fl. and we had a great time there.   Seems like flying is such a pain anymore, and it's too expensive to drive any great distance.   I hope that one of these days we'll go take a river cruise in Europe, but that's not in the current scheduling.

Our 16th grandchild, Zach, was born in 2005, and he's now a sturdy little 3 year old with a 4 year old sister, who we see often because they live only a mile away.   The oldest grandchildren are in their 20's and we will be going to our first grandchild wedding next year when our granddaughter Katie gets married.   The balance of the grandkids are in their teens or almost teens, and everyone has so many activities, that it's hard to keep up with them.   We try to go to baseball games, plays, and other functions as much as we can, but we can't do them all.

Our health - both Bob's and mine, is pretty good, considering Bob has diabetes, and has had 2 strokes.   He works in the yard every day, and keeps me going.   I play golf once a week - just 9 holes, and I love that

We are looking forward to the reunion.  I'm having, Suzanne Divine Williams, Ann Bowman McClymonds, and Nancy Godden stay here with us, and I'm sure we'll have wonderful gab-fest.   Hope to see you there in August.

Thanks for giving me the title of "Sister Sleuth" - but I only tracked down 1 person, so the title should to to Tom (deceased) - "Brother Sleuth".  See you soon,  Mary – July 2008

Letter from Mary Murrie Hardy, January 7th, 2007:

Dear Bill,  Just wanted to let you know that Sally (Fellows) O'Conner died today after suffering a massive heart attack on New Years day.   She never was conscious, and was in a coma for 4 days.   She was always the happiest person and it was a pleasure to be around her.

We had a lunch on December 23rd of a few of the class of 48, and I sat next to her, and we had such a nice time chatting.   There were about 12 or so at the lunch,  Bob Ott (deceased), Ray Ferraro (deceased), Buddy Stevenson with Eileen, Bob Woeber (deceased) with Margy, Bros and Peggy Richardson, Anne Mosites Miller, Chuck Hibler, and Sally and Buck along with Bob and myself.   I don't have details of the funeral yet.  Maybe you'll hear from some others, but thought I'd send along the word.   Mary

December 2005 - Hi Bill - Loved your card - such a clever way to show off your beautiful family.   The Hardy's are fine with just a few of the old age problems.   We are going to go to lunch on the 23rd of December with a few of the class members.   Buddy and Eileen Stevenson, Peggy and Skip Richardson, Sally Fellows O'Conner (deceased) and Bucky, Bob Ott (deceased), and I'm not sure who else.   Ought to be fun!

Sad news just received a couple days ago.   Ann Bowman McClymonds husband, Bob, died suddenly on November 18.   He was a wonderful guy - everyone liked him so much.   I saw Ann in October in Chicago when our gang of girls had our annual reunion at Pritch's house.   He was in good health then, but had to have a bypass so they decided to do it before Thanksgiving, because they knew it was a thing they had to do sooner or later.   Apparently, he came through it fine, and went home, only to have complications with very low blood pressure.   He was back in the hospital having that taken care of when he collapsed and died.   Ann and Bob lived (she is there) in Seven Lakes, North Carolina.  - a golfing community near Pinehurst.

We are going to be with all our family next weekend, but not everyone for Christmas.   We are 32 now with 7 kids, 7 outlaw kids, and 16 grandchildren - 10 boys and 6 girls.   The grandchildren ages range from 23 years to 10 months, so you can imagine how loud it gets when we are all together.

Keep in touch - I love looking through the class news and you do a great job!  Thanks, Mary

October 2005:  The first week of September the annual "DBC" reunion was held at my home in Lake Barrington, IL, a suburb of Chicago.  It was five days of talking and eating.  We spent two days in Chicago seeing the sights including the new Millennium Park (which is great fun and like no other park), the Architectural Boat Tour on the Chicago River (a must do) and a night on the town.  We told everyone that would listen who we were and that we had graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1948.  We hope "they" were impressed!

The above picture was taken after a long day of touring and shopping so we're a little worse for the wear.  Not bad, considering!  Seated: (L to R) Ann Bowman McClymonds, Suzanne Divine Williams,

August 2003:  Hey, Bill - Sorry we won't see you at the reunion - hope you're doing well now.

Since I keep getting email from the you to bring things up to date before next Friday, I thought I'd better get this sent, or the email Nazi will surely be on my back.

We don't have much to report - a new grandchild on the way (due in November) and that will make 15.  This one is a girl, and that will help to even the count although the boys still lead - 9 boys and soon 6 girls.

Our oldest grandson is a senior at W. & J. college in Washington, Pa. and plays on the football team.  The next one will be a junior at Penn State.  Then we have one girl who will be a senior in high school this year.   The rest of them are still little - the oldest of the young group is 11.  Our granddaughter in high school (Katie) is quite a good golfer and plays on some of the eastern U. S. junior tours.  She is hoping for a golf scholarship for college.  We try to follow her on some of her tours - it is more fun than trying to play ourselves.

Bob had a stroke last summer, but is doing well now and we are spending a lot of time trying to keep up with the weeds in the garden.  Unfortunately, the weeds seem to be winning.  It will be great to see all those who are coming to the reunion.

Hi to all those who don't make it.  Mary

55th Reunion - 2003

June, 2001:  Sorry you had to call Bob Woeber (deceased) about my email address - I changed in May to aol.  He called me to remind me of the '48 web site.  I love looking at all the notes from everyone.

Bob and I spent the winter in Savannah (Skidaway Island) and came back to Pittsburgh in April.  All our children are now married - with our youngest son tying the knot on Dec. 30, 2000.  Our family now numbers 30 with the addition of our new daughter-in-law Heather.  Our second grandson just graduated from high school and is headed to Penn State next week - He starts in the summer session.

We are both well, and hope that you are also - Hi everyone!!   Mary

Mary's Biography

My activities since high school consist of a long list of things that Mothers do when they raise a large family.

I graduated from Hood College and worked for U. S. Steel for a few years and then we started our family in 1955.

Between 1955 and 1973 we had 7 children - 4 girls and 3 boys. Not too bad for an only child.

Bob worked in the lumber business ( 84 LUMBER) and had fun driving harness horses at the county fairs. We lived in Scott Twp. for the first few years, but since 1964 we have lived in Upper St. Clair.

We are golfers, and I have sung in the church choir for 20 years, and that gives me a lot of pleasure.

We work in our garden a lot, and enjoy doing that.

The children have given us 13 grandchildren and another one on the way!  All my boys live out of state - one in Columbus, Ohio and one in Lexington, Ky. and the
youngest ( the only one not married) lives in San Diego.

The girls all live either in Upper St. Clair, or Mt. Lebanon, so we are very lucky to be able to see 9 of the grandchildren a lot.

Bob and I have taken some wonderful trips - a few cruises and I really love to go on cruises!

Other than that, my life as an Upper St. Clair housewife isn't too exiting - but it suits me just fine!

And that's what I've done for the past 50 years.
