The Great Commission: Life Is Short, Death Is Sure

Scriptures: Matthew 28:19-20 (NLV) – “Go and make followers of all the nations.  Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Teach them to do all the things I have told you. And I am with you always, even to the end of the world.”

Ecclesiastes 9:5 (NLV) – “For the living know they will die.  But the dead know nothing, and they will receive nothing further, for they are forgotten”.

James 4:14 (NLT) – “How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow?  Your life is like the morning fog – it’s here a little while, then it’s gone”.

Mark 16:15 (NKJV) – “And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.’”

Message: As I was driving on Highway 50 to my doctor’s appointment, I spotted an old Ford Ranger with a large sticker on its rear window that said, “LIFE IS SHORT, DEATH IS SURE, SIN THE CAUSE, CHRIST THE CURE.”  The message caught me off guard, but I couldn’t help exclaiming, “Preach it!”  When we stopped at a red light, I took a picture of the truck.  It’s true that life is fleeting and death is certain.

The Bible teaches that hope comes from Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.  Nowadays, many people behave as if they have unlimited time, using it freely, feeling unstoppable, others believing they’ll live forever.  Some think they can delay seeking God until after pursuing their own ambitions or waiting until they're near death.  This overlooks the truth that the future is unpredictable and the present is uncertain.  There are no guarantees for today or tomorrow, only God knows when our lives will end and provides the solution.  Life is ephemeral, like the morning fog.

Our responsibility is clear: as Christians, we must share the good news, Jesus himself commanded this from His disciples.

By displaying a simple sticker, the driver of the old Ford truck sends a meaningful reminder: although life continues, many people act as if they're fully in control, often overlooking how close death can be.  However, faith in Jesus offers hope of overcoming death.  Sharing the message of salvation and eternal life gives everyone an opportunity to be saved.

Prayer: Lord, we seek to carry out the Great Commission, please give us the courage and wisdom to thoughtfully share the gospel so more people can be saved.  Amen.

La Gran Comisión: La Vida es Corta, La Muerte es Segura

Versículos: Mateo 28:19-20 (RVA-2015) - Por tanto, vayan y hagan discípulos de todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, y enseñándoles que guarden todas las cosas que les he mandado.  Y he aquí, yo estoy con ustedes todos los días, hasta el fin del mundo[a]”.

Eclesiastés 9:5 (RVR1995) Porque los que viven saben que han de morir, pero los muertos nada saben, ni tienen más recompensa.  Su memoria cae en el olvido.

Santiago 4:14 (RVA-2015) Ustedes, los que no saben lo que será mañana, ¿qué es su vida?  Porque son un vapor que aparece por un poco de tiempo y luego se desvanece.

Marcos 16:15 (RVR1995) Y les dijo: —Id por todo el mundo y predicad el evangelio a toda criatura.

Mensaje: Mientras conducía por la carretera 50 camino a mi cita médica, vi una vieja Ford Ranger con un estíquer gigante en el cristal trasero que decía: "LA VIDA ES CORTA, LA MUERTE ES SEGURA, EL PECADO LA CAUSA, CRISTO LA CURA".  El mensaje me sorprendió y fue inevitable exclamar: "¡Predícalo! Cuando paramos en el semáforo le tome una foto.  Es verdad, la vida es pasajera y la muerte inevitable.

La Biblia enseña que la esperanza proviene de la vida, muerte y resurrección de Jesús.  Hoy día, muchas personas se comportan como si tuvieran tiempo ilimitado, usándolo libremente, sintiéndose imparables, otros creyéndose que vivirán eternamente.  Algunos piensan que pueden posponer a Dios para después de alcanzar sus ambiciones o esperar estar cercanos a la muerte.  Ignorando la realidad, que el futuro es impredecible y el presente incierto.  No hay garantías para hoy ni para mañana; solo Dios sabe cuándo nuestra vida termina y nos provee la solución.  La vida es momentánea, como la niebla mañanera.

Nuestra responsabilidad es clara: como cristianos, debemos compartir las buenas nuevas; Jesús mismo ordenó esto a sus discípulos.

Mostrando este simple estíquer, el chofer de la vieja Ford envía un recordatorio significativo: aunque la vida continúa y muchos actúan como si tuvieran control total, frecuentemente olvidan cuan cerca la muerte esta.  Sin embargo, la fe en Jesús ofrece la esperanza de vencer la muerte. Compartir el mensaje de salvación y vida eterna les brinda a todos la oportunidad de ser salvos.

Oración: Señor, buscamos cumplir la Gran Comisión; por favor danos valor, sabiduría y sensatez al compartir el evangelio para que más personas sean salvas.  Amén.
